    Mar 5 2024

Our guest is the marvelous Barbi McQueen a.k.a. Barbara Minty, former supermodel and wife of Steve McQueen (the King of Cool) is an international photographer and author of Steve McQueen: The Last Mile.

Barbi grew up on a dairy farm in Oregon. She was among the world’s highest paid models. One day, a famous movie star sees a photo of her. Wasn’t hard to do, she was everywhere. On the cover of top magazines and featured in a ton ads. He contacts her agent, sets up a meeting, maybe has ta part for her in a movie. But this supermodel doesn’t go to all that many movies. And to complicate things, the agent doesn’t give her the name of this movie star. So she walks into the restaurant having no idea who this movie star is. He has a full beard and is looking kind of scruffy but seeing those piercing blue eyes, she thinks he’s Paul Newman. Long story short, it’s not Newman. It’s Steve McQueen. The King of Cool. And this gorgeous model, known to the world as Barbara Minty, ultimately becomes Mrs. McQueen. They lived happily in an airport hanger packed with about a hundred motorcycles, as well as around a hundred exotic and vintage cars, including a Porsche 917, Porsche 908 and Ferrari 512 race cars. And, of course, being an airport hangar there’s his notorious yellow Boeing Stearman bi-plane.
