• ADHD Energy, Family & Parenting
    Sep 13 2023

Max Jervis-Read's enthusiasm & energy is infectious.

We first met working together in a mental health team in prison... but neither of us did the self-reflection back then to realise we might actually have ADHD ourselves.

Max & I sit down for the first time in ages to discuss how his son helped him to understand himself better, and how parenting has given him a healthy outlet for his endless energy and unbound enthusiasm.

I'm definitely going to ask Max to come back on to talk about his work in the future, but for today, there's almost an hour of glorious, ADHD chat about family, renovation projects, stressful jobs and navigating support services, for adults & for children.

The Hyperactive, Impulsive, Inattentive Living Podcast is for everyone: Whether diagnosed, un-diagnosed or non-diagnosed, neurospicy or a little bit differently-brained, medicated or unmedicated.

My guest today, Amita Murray (yes, that famous, brilliant author), identifies with plenty of the ADHD traits, but she isn’t diagnosed.

In a radically open conversation, she shares the journey she’s been on to learn about her brain & how to work with it, rather than against it. We cover rejection sensitivity, emotions as physical things, ‘passing as normal’, creativity & building an authentic life. Amita makes clear that the path to feeling comfortable with herself hasn’t been easy or smooth, and that makes her story all the more inspiring.

Amita writes in two genres: contemporary mystery and historical mystery romance.

Her latest book, Unladylike Lessons in Love, the first in the Marleigh Sisters series, is out now… And it’s A-MAY-ZING!

“Do you like Georgette Heyer? Do you like the TV series Bridgerton? You will love this! A wonderful Regency romance, with a damn good plot that feel real and fully created characters. It’s romantic, sexy, funny, exciting, touching and moving.”

  • Naturally Caffeinated & Multi-Passionate with Lenae Reeves
    Aug 4 2023

Lenae Reeves woke up at 6am to record this. She's a whirlwind of positive vibes, compassion and energy all the way from Nebraska.

I wanted to understand how someone with ADHD can start their own notary business (doesn't that require a ridiculous amount of attention to detail?), but as soon as Lenae started talking, I realised she's so much more than that.

Through her time in education and serving in leadership in my community, her prayer has been that I can be a voice that reminds people they are loved, they are not alone, and they are capable. Her prayer for her empire and life is no different. She told me that she hopes to bring that same love and encouragement to as many people as possible.

And if it's still raining in the UK, I promise today's episode is the pick-me-up you need.

From religion to education, healthcare to line dancing, alcohol to unhealthy relationships, we cover a million and one subjects and I still had a million and one more questions I wanted to ask.

Opening up about his own mental health struggles, Matt doesn’t just help his clients build a better body, but a better life. His whole body-mind approach was pivotal in putting me on the path to formal ADHD diagnosis and during this conversation, we talk about how that happened.

  • Neurodiverse Kids, Feminism & Injuries with Liz, Reiki Master Teacher and Occupational Therapist
    Jul 21 2023

Liz joins me today to share her experience working as an Occupational Therapist with children all across the neurodiverse spectrum.

My mind is blown by the physical symptoms she talks about that often co-exist with ND conditions. We talk the difference presentations in boys vs. girls and whether they come down to nature or nurture.

Liz, who knew me when I was a child, but hasn't seen me in 30 years, talks about what 'Little Angie' was like and how she saw my symptoms present when we reconnected as adults.

I could've kept going for hours, but Liz is in the middle of helping to build a house, so I had to leave her to go off and learn how to plaster walls. You might hear some banging in the background of this one because of the building works, but I think the quality of the conversation makes up for the quality of the sound.

  • Policing, Crime, ADHD & Dyspraxia with Detective Constable Daley Jones
    Jul 14 2023

Daley speaks candidly about his experience of living with ADHD and his work in The Met police. Since diagnosis, he has founded the ADHD Alliance, a national support group for Police officers and staff with ADHD, or those who support someone with ADHD.

He's passionate about improving the lives of people with neurodiverse conditions both within the police and for people who come into contact with the criminal justice system. Daley is a trustee for the ADHD Adult charity, and ADHD liberty.

And honestly, this is really worth a listen. I had so many of my ideas about what policing involved challenged and it was a pleasure to hear about all the work he's doing.
