Hyperactive, Impulsive, Inattentive Living

By: Angela Kirwin
  • Summary

  • Whether you’ve got a formal diagnosis or just want to learn more, you’re in the right place. Listen for interviews with some of the most interesting people I know, who just happen to also have ADHD. ADHD isn’t all horrific, nor is it always a ‘superpower’, but we often get told it can only be one or the other. With a different guest each week, we hear more of the messy, nuanced reality as we talk about the good, bad & ugly of living with ADHD, as we aim to validate, inspire and educate. • ADHD Energy, Family & Parenting
    Sep 13 2023

Max Jervis-Read's enthusiasm & energy is infectious.

We first met working together in a mental health team in prison... but neither of us did the self-reflection back then to realise we might actually have ADHD ourselves.

Max & I sit down for the first time in ages to discuss how his son helped him to understand himself better, and how parenting has given him a healthy outlet for his endless energy and unbound enthusiasm.

I'm definitely going to ask Max to come back on to talk about his work in the future, but for today, there's almost an hour of glorious, ADHD chat about family, renovation projects, stressful jobs and navigating support services, for adults & for children.

🌍In between taking over the world & giving his all to his family, Tom sat down to talk about his high energy, total commitment and ‘all in’ attitude.

It’s worth listening to for the details of the meet-cute with his wife, but we also go deep about recovery & resilience, and how growing up in Belfast shaped the person he is today.

He’s a whirlwind of inspiration, dedication & discipline, who also happens to have #ADHD. And, following his lead, I’d like to express my huge gratitude for such a great conversation & to @oreilly_dean @polkastays for making this happen.

The Hyperactive, Impulsive, Inattentive Living Podcast is for everyone: Whether diagnosed, un-diagnosed or non-diagnosed, neurospicy or a little bit differently-brained, medicated or unmedicated.

My guest today, Amita Murray (yes, that famous, brilliant author), identifies with plenty of the ADHD traits, but she isn’t diagnosed.

In a radically open conversation, she shares the journey she’s been on to learn about her brain & how to work with it, rather than against it. We cover rejection sensitivity, emotions as physical things, ‘passing as normal’, creativity & building an authentic life. Amita makes clear that the path to feeling comfortable with herself hasn’t been easy or smooth, and that makes her story all the more inspiring.

Amita writes in two genres: contemporary mystery and historical mystery romance.

Her latest book, Unladylike Lessons in Love, the first in the Marleigh Sisters series, is out now… And it’s A-MAY-ZING!

“Do you like Georgette Heyer? Do you like the TV series Bridgerton? You will love this! A wonderful Regency romance, with a damn good plot that feel real and fully created characters. It’s romantic, sexy, funny, exciting, touching and moving.”
