Specifying how many chromosomes a human has varies depending on each cell in our body (except for sex cells).

It has 46 chromosomes grouped in pairs, that is, 23 pairs of chromosomes per cell.

As we say, there is the exception of sex cells (eggs and sperm) that have only 23 chromosomes (1 of each pair).

Thus, when a sperm fertilizes an egg, it gives rise to a zygote with 23 pairs of chromosomes.
