  • Welcome to Unlocked Perspectives! In this episode, I speak to two prison leavers about their experiences with the prison system. David Breakspear left prison in 2017 after a revolving door of crisis and crime which started in his teens and took him through to his late forties. David now uses his first-hand experience with the prison system to campaign for change and strongly advocates against the school to prison pipeline, an issue which he says has a massive impact on children and families.

    I also speak with David Dunn. David founded an organisation called Release Mates, after being released from prison in 2022. David is now the founder and CEO of Release Mates, where he uses his own experience with the prison system and addiction to support prison leavers upon release date.

    This episode aims to unlock the perspective of the prison leaver and recognise how their unique experiences have shaped the knowledge they bring to this podcast.
