  • 'Takes too long and costs too much': Murray Watt on the Coalition's nuclear costings
    Dec 12 2024

The coalition has finally released their nuclear costings.

Their plan includes building seven nuclear power plants at a cost of $331 billion over 25 years which is significantly lower than Labor's renewables scheme.

The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Senator Murray Watt told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "The point here is that we can either rely on the figures provided by consultants who Peter Dutton and the Coalition have engaged, or we can rely on the independent science agencies of our country, like the CSIRO."

'They're not politicians, they've got no agenda, they just deal with the facts and they say that renewables is cheaper than nuclear," Senator Watt said.

  • 'Reliable, affordable power into the future': David Littleproud backs Coalition's nuclear costings
    Dec 12 2024

The Coalition has handed down their nuclear costings which show their energy plan would cost Australians $263 billion less than Labor's renewables policy.

Peter Dutton estimates the construction and operation of the seven nuclear plants will deliver net zero by 2050 and cost $331 billion.

Nationals Leader David Littleproud told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "There's a better way, there's a cheaper way and there's a more reliable way."

"There's no country of the industrial size of Australia that has gone all renewables, you can't do it, you need a sensible mix," Littleproud said.

  • Garbo strike to force Ipswich residents to take their own rubbish to the dump
    Dec 12 2024

Ipswich Waste Services workers are going on strike from today onwards, over a pay rise dispute with the Ipswich City Council.

The two parties have not been able to reach an agreement which means many Ipswich residents are set to have overflowing bins that they will have to empty themselves.

Ipswich City Council Acting CEO, Matt Smith told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "We're trying to balance the cost of living pressures on our employees, but we also have the community to think of and the cost of living pressures on them around rates and the other services that we provide."

When asked if Ipswich residents will need to take their own rubbish to the dump, Acting CEO Smith replied, "That may well be the case."

  • 'Absolutely not': Brisbane Council shuts down criticism of Christmas decorations cuts
    Dec 11 2024

4BC listeners have raised concerns that the Brisbane City Council has scaled back on Christmas decorations with some saying you 'wouldn't even know it is Christmas'.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Krista Adams told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, 'we do actually have more decorations by number than we usually have in the mall.'

'But I do think they're probably just a little bit different to last year and everybody has their own opinion of what they like and they're entitled to that opinion.

If you really, really, really want to feel that true Christmas spirit, go and celebrate 100 years in the Brisbane Arcade as well. That is spectacular,' Councillor Adams said.
