Garbo strike to force Ipswich residents to take their own rubbish to the dump

  • Summary

  • Ipswich Waste Services workers are going on strike from today onwards, over a pay rise dispute with the Ipswich City Council.

The two parties have not been able to reach an agreement which means many Ipswich residents are set to have overflowing bins that they will have to empty themselves.

Ipswich City Council Acting CEO, Matt Smith told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, "We're trying to balance the cost of living pressures on our employees, but we also have the community to think of and the cost of living pressures on them around rates and the other services that we provide."

When asked if Ipswich residents will need to take their own rubbish to the dump, Acting CEO Smith replied, "That may well be the case."
