With her soothing voice, the author's narration creates a calm and engaging experience.
I appreciated how the author breaks down complex industry concepts into manageable explanations, making them less overwhelming. The use of insightful analogies throughout the book also helps to reinforce the lessons learned, which kept me listening.

Must Have Guide for Artists in the Music Industry

In the unpredictable terrain of the modern music industry, "You and the Music Business" serves as a comprehensive map for artists, dishing out practical strategies alongside Tara Shannon's seasoned insights. This book stands out for its candid acknowledgment of the indie artist's reality, offering a balanced view that neither sugarcoats the challenges nor downplays the opportunities. Shannon deftly guides readers through the intricacies of industry navigation, from expanding a fanbase to understanding the cryptic language of music contracts, making the book an indispensable toolkit for artists.

Shannon further enriches the narrative with the ingenious 'carpenter business model' analogy, elucidating the concept that artists can scale the size and scope of their business, much like a carpenter scales their projects to match their capacity and resources and grows their industry as big as their dreams. This philosophy empowers artists, highlighting that they can align their business decisions with their personal visions, aspirations, and practical constraints. The guide encourages a holistic approach, where decisions about seeking management or releasing new work are not impulsive but are the result of deliberate self-assessment and strategic planning. By advocating for artists to understand and embrace their unique position in the music ecosystem, "You and the Music Business" doesn’t just chart a path to success; it hands the compass over to the artists themselves, allowing them to set their course and pace in the often tumultuous waters of the music industry. I Highly Recommend this book to not just Indie Artists but also Entrepreneurs outside the music scene!

Perfect guide to stay balanced

This book is very thorough and shares amazing advice with music industry professionals. The author's chapter on Mindful Networking was quite eye-opening. I was surprised to hear that networking would be a way to practice mindfulness. The author explains that while you network, you build meaningful connections in the industry without sacrificing your sanity. The narration is done directly from the author and she has the most soothing voice so that along keeps you calm and very engaged. The author goes on to explain some of the industry concepts and breaks them down to a very manageable explanation so it can seem less overwhelming.

I also have to talk about the analyses shared. She shares amazing analogies that again, keep you hooked and help to lock in the lessons you are learning. Great book for anyone in the industry who just feels like they need a little extra something.

A well done book dealing with real truths.

I am also experienced in the music business for many years and this book is very good for obtaining the proper mindset. The industry has changed alot of the years to the point to where artist need to take an independent contractor approach towards being seen by industry executives or staying in full control towards financial success. This book covers things from this new perspective which is refreshing. The chapters on "Do the math" and "what are the numbers?" are right on point. Artists need to also take the "Self Investment"mindset in dealing with their careers as this book suggest. How should you expect somone to invest in you if you wont yourself. Good book!
