Summary

Do you work for an emotionally intelligent organization? In his phenomenal best seller Emotional Intelligence, Daniel Goleman, Ph.D. mapped the territory where emotional intelligence meets I.Q. - where we apply what we know to how we live. His benchmark work validated what many successful people already knew: Being smart isn't just a matter of mastering facts; it's a matter of mastering your own emotions and understanding the emotions of the people around you. Now, in Working with Emotional Intelligence, Dr. Goleman shows why emotional intelligence has become the new yardstick of success for CEOs and junior hires alike. Drawing on both unparalleled access to business leaders and cutting-edge research, he shows that star performance in every field depends more on emotional intelligence than on I.Q. or technical skills. You'll be surprised to learn how the impact of emotional intelligence is even greater at the top of the leadership pyramid and will benefit from the real-life examples from the business world that Goleman uses to illustrate his theory.

Common Sense

This took a little getting into. I don't mind saying that I had the paperback version on loan and was finding it very difficult to get into, thus the reason for downloading in audio. I found I listened while doing chores or in the car and am very glad I downloaded it. This was mostly a common sense book with lots of supporting examples. Worth a read/listen.

I wish the leaders in the NHS would read this.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Anyone leading any organisation from an autocratic stance would benefit from reading this book. There are great examples of how treating employees and colleagues with respect really does pay off. That by running staff in the ground and treating them as commodities only costs more in the end.

What did you like best about this story?

It shows how human and frail people can be but there are techniques that draw the best out of them rather than beating people emotionally when in a position of higher management. The reader and words have a non condescending tone and the author clearly write from the voice of experience with well researched examples, though I did wonder if American Express paid a contribution!

What about Aaron Meza’s performance did you like?

Easy listening.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me feel frustrated and even angry, puzzled as well, at how information in this book and others can go so unheard in some areas. Especially NHS which presently feels to be tipping the wrong way and little emotional intelligence toward its staff.

Great insight into emotional intelligence

This book gave me what I wanted and this is something I will revisit as my career goes on......however, I'm always disappointed when the author doesn't read and when music plays between chapters.
