Summary

Don’t miss this compulsive new addition to the gripping DI Clare Mackay series from Bloody Scotland Scottish Debut Crime Novel 2020 shortlisted author Marion Todd.

It is the stroke of midnight on Hogmanay when Alison Reid admits a caller to her home. When her death is later reported, DI Clare Mackay attends the scene. The initial evidence does not rule out murder, but it’s not possible to say for certain if foul play was involved. Yet when the pathologist informs Clare about a post mortem of a young woman found in the Kinness Burn, and with some similarities to Alison’s case, it seems there’s a strong chance that there’s a killer on the loose in St Andrews. Clare and her team will have to look past the obvious conclusions and delve deeper into the lives of the victims to get to the truth. But who else risks meeting the same fate while the clock is ticking?

Love this series

I know this area of the country well and enjoy listening and being able to visualise the locations. Story lines are good. Author narration clear and relaxed style.

Excellent!

This is an excellent series and I think this one is my favourite. The stories are not as formulaic as so often the case with crime fiction. The characters are well drawn and, although many authors don’t do a great job narrating (stick to your own field comes to mind), Marion Todd’s narration is always a pleasure. I have one more left to go and I hope the author has more in the works.

Plenty of Action

Yet another cracking investigation by this author. Unusual modus operandi and plenty of deaths to keep me listening. Like all good series the characterisation is skilfully crafted and the team now feel like family. I'm now addicted so off to download book 5. Recommended

Excellent

Another wonderful romp through St Andrews, Dundee and the Fife coast with even a wee trip to Glasgow. Bliss! On to the next book . . . what a brilliant series. And don't listen to anyone who says the narration is awful. It isn't. Ms Todd has a wonderfully clear Scottish voice. If you're not Scottish, persevere as it's well worth it.

Really enjoyed this series

I have now listened to all 4 books so far and I have really enjoyed them, I listen mainly to a series because I want to get to know the characters and I love Clare and her team and of course Benjy, its good to hear the conversations and how things are worked out I also love the sound of St Andrews it sounds like a beautiful place, when I listen to a book I often look on Google Maps to see the area on street view to see what the people in the book see. Marion narrates her books and from my understanding she isn't a trained actor and does a very good job I am so looking forward to book 5

Love this series

I enjoyed the storyline with all it's twists, but as a closet romantic, I take a real delight in the blossoming relationship between Claire and Al.
Please keep it going and let's have a successful pairing between coppers.
