Summary

Next in Line is a thrilling addition to the much-loved and best-selling detective fiction series from a rising star in Scottish crime fiction. Ideal for fans of Alex Gray, D. K. Hood and Rachel Amphlett.

Gaby Fox is known to many due to her successful TV career, so when her brother and his pals hire the salubrious Lamond Lodge for his birthday celebrations, it is noted by the St Andrews locals. A ripple of shock goes round the town when Russell Fox is gunned down on the premises. DI Clare Mackay is attending a wedding when she sees Gabrielle receive a phone call then flee.

Soon after, Clare learns why when the news of the shooting reaches her. Instead of trying to enjoy the day - not easy when the groom is her ex-boyfriend - Clare is preoccupied. Clare gets to work on uncovering the facts surrounding Russell Fox’s death. The guests at the lodge have secrets to hide, but even when Clare begins to unravel the deceit, it doesn’t bring the answers. The detective can’t help but wonder why no one who knew Russell seems capable of telling the truth and whether there is more than one person with a reason to want him dead....

Captivating Series

Excellent series that captivates from the first chapter - no time for the mind to wander as mine does sometimes at the start of a new book.
The resonance of the narration sounds different when the books first start, but this does not detract from any enjoyment of the book.
I hope Clare Mackay’s career proves to be very long and eventful!

I have used up all my credits buying these books

What a credit well spent. I’ve loved all of them and am really sad that I’ve finished them. Great characters and twisty storylines. Can’t ask for more. Also very well read.

Little disappointing

This was the least enjoyable. It was overly convoluted and it was becoming somewhat schmaltzy at the expense of the overall narrative.

Mixed feelings

I really enjoy these stories but they need a voice actor to give the audio some life. The author/narrator has a nice speaking voice but there are no regional accents, nuances of character or general liveliness. I think I may read the next one as listening seems to drain me.

Another brilliant story

Gripping story. I thought I had worked out the end but was wrong!
I do enjoy the narration. These books would make a great television series.
Problem now waiting for next story.

Another fantastic read!

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. The characters are likeable and the setting is familiar to me both St Andrew's and Dundee, I can see in my minds eye where the characters are. A good escapism with the mix of crime that's not described graphically and a touch of romance.
