THE INSTANT SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER - DISCOVER THE MOUTHWATERING FOLLOW-UP TO HIS BESTSELLING MEMOIR, TASTE
‘Sharing food is one of the purest human acts'
Food has always been an integral part of Stanley Tucci’s life: from stracciatella soup served in the shadow of the Pantheon, to marinara sauce cooked between rehearsals and costume fittings, to home-made pizza eaten with his children before bedtime.
Now, in What I Ate in One Year Tucci records twelve months of eating, in restaurants, kitchens, film sets, press junkets, at home and abroad, with friends, with family, with strangers, and occasionally just by himself.
Ranging from the mouth-wateringly memorable, to the comfortingly domestic, to the infuriatingly inedible, the meals memorialized in this diary are a prism through which he reflects on the ways his life, and his family, are constantly evolving. Through food he marks – and mourns – the passing of time, the loss of loved ones, and prepares himself for what is to come.
Whether it’s duck à l’orange eaten with fellow actors and cooked by singing Carmelite nuns, steaks barbecued at a gathering with friends, or meatballs made by his mother and son and shared at the table with three generations of his family, these meals give shape and richness to his days.
'A hugely entertaining glimpse into a well-lived life full of fun, food, family, travel, work, passions and love. I adored every page' Dolly Alderton
'This is a man who knows both how to eat and how to live' Guardian
‘Everyone wants to spend a day and share a meal with Stanley Tucci and this is the perfect way to do it … A true joy’ Ina Garten
‘An absolute delight. Tucci's wit is dry as a martini; his observations as sharp as lemon tart, but really what I most adore about his writing is his ability to reach across the table and guide the reader not just through mealtimes, but through life itself’ Elizabeth Day

The best of the best
This book has no faults. It is what it says in the title and Stanley’s charismatic voice and reading style just finishes it off perfectly.

Pleasant and interesting but repetitive and lots of name dropping
Anybody that has enjoyed Tuccis' show about food would likely find this book enjoyable for at least 3/4 of the time. There are some interesting anecdotes and thoughts as well to keep one engaged.
I did get annoyed at the (almost constant) celebrity name dropping which at some points did seem gratuitous. This seemed to happen more often towards the end of the book I feel.

Pretty Fun Light Listen
This book was quite enjoyable but I would say only if you’re into cooking. Perhaps that isn’t shocking to some but it would probably be good to be made aware for those not expecting it.
It’s nice to hear little bits of stories from his time travelling. He is a good story teller. He gets a bit repetitive with jokes and constant stories of celebrity encounters. There’s excessive name dropping.
Lots of the recipes sound excellent. I’d love to meet Stan.

Delicious
I was so hungry the whole time listening to this book, some great recipe ideas! I loved learning all about Stanley and his family. I hadn’t realised about the acting, Stanley, to me, had always been a chef. I could listen to his voice and the dry humour all day - more please!

Pure comfort & joy
It is always a comfort to listen to Stanley (especially whilst cooking). His latest book is an indulgent & easy listen delivering exactly what it says it is…for some this might sound like an incredibly boring read,.‘what he ate last year?!’ But with Stanley Tucci this is, as ever the exception. I love how a book can contain something so incredibly simple whilst at the same time contain so much. Stanley would for sure be a welcome dream dinner party guest (& host) for anyone who is lucky enough know him.
