Summary

John Carter, Prince of Helium, has been imprisoned for a Martian year, his wife in another cell - alive or dead, he doesn't know.

In this continuation of the saga of the amazing world of Barsoom, the love story of Carter and Dejah Thoris - the red-skinned, oviparous princess - unfolds. Like all the tales in the series, fantasy and adventure combine in a style as malleable as dreams, exotic and dangerous and unending.

east to listen too, simple yet interesting story

took a while to get used to the American accent, but actually fit the main characters geography. It's not complex story and because it's an old old book, the language is old fashioned and isn't a story you can listen to lightly, you really have to concentrate, but actually if you do, keeps you interested enough. if you like me waiting for your monthly points 😁 this filled the gap well.

Entertaining pulp from another time

There is no doubt in my mind that when this was written it was perfectly suited to the readers of that time and enjoyable, sadly there are too many “discrepancies” in the descriptions for me (9 days and nights without food or water the most glaring). In addition the narrator’s style is to say the least I am sad to say rather dull and monotonous with many characters sounding exactly the same way.
That is not to say the book was bad, indeed the world of Barsoom is rich with heroic tales, deadly beasts and mysterious devices of ancient civilisations, its just that they sadly suffer the ravages of time.

Pulp

No improvement to the low standard of the 2nd book. This writer appears to have no hidden depths. Another one for the Proud Boys.
