Summary

As the Emperor marshals his armies to reclaim the galaxy for the glory of mankind, one by one his Space Marine Legions are reunited with their missing primarchs. The XVIII Legion are still waiting to find their true identity, unaware their own lord has been found. In the Taras Division, legionaries face annihilation as they take a last, desperate stand against a monstrous ork invasion.

Meanwhile, on Nocturne, Vulkan has raised and trained a new force of warriors. Now it is the time for him to lead his sons into battle. Now it is the time for him to truly don the mantle of primarch, not only to save one half of his Legion but to forge a new, indivisible whole.

Struggled to enjoy this even though the ending was good

Only persevered with this book as I have every intention of going through all the Warhammer stories. This one I found very difficult to get into and the first 6 chapters were dull. I did enjoy the remaining few chapters. The performance was ok, but not wow.

Great story

Not only a good picture of Vulcan but also both parts of the legion. If you like Salamanders this is amazing.

love the story of the rise of the salamanders, couldn't stop listening to it. Even found myself driving around the block when I have got home, just to listen a bit more!

Short but sweet....

A stronger entry in this series. No new boys meeting old boys angst. Just a well paced short read that has some decent action scenes and fills in a nice bit of story for the birth of the 18th legion.

Amazing!! Must listen

Wasn’t too sure initially as it was shorter than most. But the inspirational story of the beginnings of the 18th legion and their primarch will give you goosebumps
