About this listen

A Siege of Terra novella.

Listen to it because:

Discover the epic conclusion to the long journey of the Sisypheum through the Horus Heresy in a novella packed with revelations and action that expands the scope of the Siege of Terra.

The story:

The Shattered Legions crew of the Sisypheum, broken and at the end of their endurance, find themselves divided – torn between following their resurrected captain on a suicidal mission or obeying orders to return to Terra and rejoin their Legion brothers.

Following a series of garbled messages intercepted by the Kryptos, the divided warriors descend to the shattered surface of Luna. Here, their bonds of loyalty, duty, and their devotion to one another will be tested as ancient horrors of the earliest days of gene-manipulation are unleashed, and a long-buried secret is revealed.

A secret that will have far-reaching consequences for the future course of the galaxy, no matter who eventually claims Terra.

captivating and a true warriors tale

I had heard some hype about this audio book and let me tell you... it lives up to it and more.
the voice acting, the storyline
everything.
I only wish it was longer eventhough it is a really good size for such an intense work

Short but sweet

I usually don't use credits on books that are much shorter than around 10 hours, so it took a while for me to get this book and now that I've listened it, I certainly don't regret using the credit even if the book was very short. I wasn't always the biggest fan of the shattered legions stories from earlier Horus Heresy books as sometimes it felt that it was there simply to fill space to get more books into the series and distracting from the main story line, but regardless there were a lot of good moments in the shattered legions story line along the way. There also seems to be a bit more humor in this story line, maybe because it's otherwise quite bleak as it documents the story of survivors from Istvan III who have gone through a lot, so it might be a bit bleak. Sons of Selenar continues this tone strongly and I think successfully as well, managing to be quite grim while still having some genuine humoristic moments without any internal discord between these two. It's a well written and narrated suitably epic ending for this story arc. I won't spoil it, but the end makes it quite definitive that the story arc ends here, there's a part introduced in Sons of Selenar that might maybe continue in other books, but it won't be focused on the same characters for sure. I would recommend this to any serious reader or listener of the Horus Heresy series, it's not something that you need to have listened to get the main story, but it's just a very good novella and it finishes the shattered legions story arc.

Great short story

I have been listening to the whole Siege of Terra series and for some reason these shorter stories are hard to find. This adds a great tangent to the main storyline with lots of interesting things going on... doesn't affect the main plot but adds to it. I got it on a deal, which is good because these shorter stories don't quite feel like they're worth a whole credit compared to longer books. I think they should combine the three short ones into a single audio book to make it feel more worthwhile, but that's just my opinion. I enjoyed the story and there are a load of story hooks that I am interested in hearing more about in future.

A fitting end for an enjoyable series

A fitting end for an enjoyable series

An engaging band of interesting characters finely supplemented with an additional one - all brilliantly voiced by the top narrator

Well worth a read.

Although fairly short, this was a really good book. The way the characters come across is very well done.

A short but decent side story....

.... takes place during the siege and shifts focus away from terra. By no means a must read but an end of sorts for most of the characters featured. Worth the distraction for completeists, but not for those dipping in and out. As always a great performance by the narrator.

This is how you make your final stand

This is Warhammer so it will never be a happy ending, particularly for this crew. All you ask is that if the characters are facing grim odds, then let their final outing have meaning.

Here McNeill has given the crew of the Sisypheum a glorious send-off while still finding time to explore the characters a little more and advance some of the story. There's the ending you expect - and one you hope for. If like me you're still wishing Galaxy in Flames had a different author, now's your chance to find out.
