About this listen
The shocking first true account from one of the young girls who lived through and survived the Rotherham sex abuse scandal.
In the summer of 2014, the Rotherham sex abuse scandal sent shockwaves through the nation. A report revealed that, since the 1990s, up to 1,400 young girls in the town had been regularly abused by sex gangs, predominantly comprised of Pakistani men. As the media descended on the small Yorkshire town, Sarah Wilson watched with horror and relief as her voice was finally heard after years of abuse.
Sarah was just eleven years old when she was befriended by a group of older men. Bullied at school, naive and vulnerable, the gifts and attention they lavished on her were what she craved, she just wanted to belong. But soon she was hooked on alcohol and drugs, and then they owned her. She was just twelve years old when she was bundled into a car by a man in his thirties and forced to have sex with him. Soon, the gang were driving her to places where she was raped by scores of men.
Falling through the system, from social services to school, no-one was able to help her. She ‘escaped’ when she became too old for the men at nearly sixteen.
Finally a victim of the Rotherham scandal tells her story in the hope that other young girls will not fall prey to the same evil that she endured.

Interesting
Horrendous story, I was aware of these crimes as they were seen on a BBC documentary, I truly wish the author the very best & trust that she is able to get intense therapy.

Violated
This book was a difficult read, but once I started I knew I had to finish it. Sarah Wilson is an amazingly brave young lady who has been through so much trauma and tragedy at such a young age. Despite her dreadful experiences, she survived and has written this book which describes how she was the victim of grooming at a very young age. The failures of the police, social services and various other agencies is shocking. I would recommend this book, but would say that it will take you in an emotional rollercoaster but this is nothing compared to Sarah's experiences.

Heartbreaking for what Sara and the others went through
It is not often I have problems put a book down to carry on later, but this one really had me hooked. I really feel for this girl not only for what happened to her, but to just start to get away from the groomers to then lose her sister to these sort of animals. They consider their honour more important than a young girl and mothers life. Stuff like this should be a lot harsher punishment. As for the guy who killed her sister, should have hung him. As that is not possible keep him in for life making him work for his keep or when he gets out send him and his family back to where they came from as they want to live be their own country's rules and not ours. Last but not least Sara you were not responsible for what happen to you there is no way you could have stopped it. May the rest of your life be an enjoyable one with your kids

Worth the listen
Awful, horrific and every other terrible word you could think of is how to describe Sarah’s journey. I want to reach into the chapters to protect you. Failed by everybody. A disgusting start to a young life with too much heartache. Thank god you found a way forward, to not let this define you. Hopefully you will find a way to help others who have been dealt such a hand. As the reader, we hear you. The way to win is to be happy. May you find a way to completely heal your soul.
The narrator was perfect for this audiobook.

Exceptionally told.
Having a social work degree I am aware of the level of abuse, trafficking and exploitation that happens all over the world and I have read many stories in relation to this topic and others. Having read 'Child A' i wanted to read this to see the contrast between the stories and so I had an idea what to expect. Sarah has been through so much in her life and yet her courage and bravery astounded me. I cried so much not just from sadness and horror at what she had been through, but also what her mother and sister had to live through seeing a sibling and daughter being dragged into this abuse and feel powerless to stop it. The police, the ones who had power to intervene, disgustingly did nothing . They all must have felt so alone and in despair. what wonderful people Sarah's family are to do everything they could to bring her out the other side. The love Sarah had for her children shone through in the story and this made me cry even more. Such a beautiful person!
Amazingly told and I felt like she portrayed her story perfectly, in turn sharing with the reader every emotion she went through. I felt the emotions with her which is a credit to her writing. So glad I chose this book.
