About this listen

FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB

A brand new series.

An iconic new detective duo.

And a thrilling new murder to solve . . .

Steve Wheeler is enjoying retired life. He does the odd bit of investigation work, but he prefers his familiar habits and routines: the pub quiz, his favourite bench, his cat waiting for him when he comes home. His days of adventure are over: adrenaline is daughter-in-law Amy’s business now.

Amy Wheeler thinks adrenaline is good for the soul. As a private security officer, she doesn’t stay still long enough for habits or routines. She’s currently on a remote island keeping world-famous author Rosie D’Antonio alive. Which was meant to be an easy job . . .

Then a dead body, a bag of money and a killer with their sights on Amy have her sending an SOS to the only person she trusts. A breakneck race around the world begins, but can Amy and Steve stay one step ahead of a deadly enemy?

'The thing that shines through in Osman’s writing is that he really likes people and revels in all their foibles and eccentricities. All of which makes for a delightful read – and another little slice of warmth in time for autumn' THE OBSERVER

'This is a sitcom-meets-Bond, and a fine murder mystery’ DAILY EXPRESS

'Much as with the earlier books, I read We Solve Murders in a few pleasured gulps' SUNDAY TIMES

Editorial Review

A retired detective, a kick-ass bodyguard, and a cat named Trouble
I always feel a dash of anxiety when one of my favourite authors kicks off something totally new, but the fantastic new series starter from Richard Osman does not disappoint. There are some familiar tropes at play: retiree Steve Wheeler dabbling in investigatory work, a diverse cast of characters who come together over pints and trivia. But he ups the ante with Steve's daughter-in-law Amy, a truly hardcore veteran-turned-bodyguard who works for an elite protection contractor. And the murders these two find themselves needing to solve are epic and global in scale. In true Osman form, the dialogue is punchy, fast-paced and smart, making this listen completely impossible to put down thanks to Nicola Walker's adroit and vibrant narration. — Emily C., Audible Editor

The characters and the plot were really good, I've listened twice already, hope there's another very soon.

Good, but it's no Thursday Murder Club

Story was OK, but found the sheer number of characters confusing. Felt like it was written for TV.

Didn’t think he could improve on the previous stories and I was delighted to be proven wrong. This had me gripped from second chapter to the last!

Far-fetched but fun

Another highly listenable audiobook from the pen of Richard Osman. The main characters were likeable and the plot moved with pace. It's not the most plausible story in the world so if you like gritty realism, this might not be the book for you, but if you like a fun story with a bunch of murders, hitmen and pub quizzes, you might enjoy this.

Harmless cozy and humorous at times

Rips along with lots of action. With upwards of 30 characters I needed to write them all down as they were introduced.

Very interesting characters, especially Trouble. Captivating story, I couldn't put it down. Nicola Walker read fantastically, really enjoyed her voice. Looking forward to their next adventure, wherever it may be ...
