About this listen

He’s a hockey-playing trivia nerd who doesn’t believe in happily-ever-after. She’s an ambitious attorney looking for Prince Charming. Can love score a win, or will it get iced?

Blake Barrett’s wicked wrist shot is fueling his meteoric rise in the NHL. But the top center for the championship team needs some practice when it comes to his skills off the ice. When the hot next-door neighbor offers the awkward athlete kissing lessons, Blake is all in. And he’s in no danger of falling for the sassy attorney because his heart’s in permafrost after his parents’ disastrous marriage taught him that happily-ever-after doesn’t exist.

Michaela Wagner has scrapped for a position in a prestigious law firm, and her love life has taken a hit. She’s a big believer in fairy-tale endings, though. Prince Charming might not have popped up in her dating apps or at any speed-dating events, but he’s out there waiting for her. One thing’s certain: he’s definitely not the hunky hockey player living next door … even if the guy’s endearing modesty and intense green eyes cause her pulse to skyrocket.

As they grow closer, Blake’s distrust of romance unravels like spent hockey tape, while Michaela’s misgivings about her trivia-slinging neighbor melt away. But past fears make a happy ending for these two as elusive as a Stanley Cup win.

When desire faces off against doubt, will their inconvenient attraction survive the penalty box?

4.5 Stars!

At this point, I’m locked into the series! It has yet to disappoint me! 💕

Book #7 within the Playmakers series (but can be read as a standalone), Twister Wrister is about Blake Barrett and Michaela Wagner. After reading the previous 6 books in the series, I was excited to keep going with this book. And as always, I was not disappointed!

Blake has been working hard and is becoming a star on his hockey team, the Colorado Blizzard, whilst his teammate, roommate, and best friend falls behind. This drives a wedge in their friendship. To complicate things further, they both meet their temporary neighbour Michaela. They both take a liking to her and would like to get to know her more. If that wasn’t complicated enough, having watched his parents’ disastrous marriage growing up, he’s convinced a happily-ever-after is not in the cards for him. Meanwhile, Michaela, one of the youngest real estate lawyers in her very prestigious firm, is working very hard to get a highly coveted project. Constantly working against being underestimated, she is not giving up just yet. Although she doesn’t have much time for dating, she’s a big believer in fairy-tale endings. Could the hockey player next door meet the challenge?

I really enjoyed this and couldn’t put it down! As mentioned, I read the previous 6 books and had to pick this one up as well! This book met my expectations and more! Blake and Michaela were just so perfect for each other. Their chemistry was just outstanding! It was also interesting reading/listening to the deeper topics covered like Blake’s home life. I honestly loved them both! Blake was just so thoughtful, sincere, nerdy, but so fun! And Michaela, although there was some insecurities there from her previous relationship, she was hard working (never giving up) and I just wanted her to win in her personal and professional life! This book truly was fun, with the right amount to serious.

Narrated by Scott Rose and Samantha Brentmoor. They both were fantastic. Rose did amazing with the portrayal of the sexy, caring, and sincere man that was Blake. His voice really fitted the character. Whilst Brentmoor was also fantastic as the sassy, lawyer that was Michaela. The pacing and tone of the narration was superb! Both narrators truly brought the story and characters to life! I highly recommend!

These two characters are so funny. They both have a wicked sense of humour that will have you laughing out loud. It’s a light hilarious storyline that I loved. A brilliant performance.

Enjoyable read

This is book 7 in the Players Series and the 2nd one that I have read. This story is about Blake who’s a Hockey player and Michaela is a lawyer who recently moved into his building. They live across from each other. Their first encounter is far from friendly but they end up spending more and more time together because Blake’s roommate and teammate, Owen, like Michaela. They start to develop feelings for each other which, of course, they try to deny.

I love a main character with a tragic backstory and Blake certainly ticks that box. He’s got a complicated relationship with his family that has shaped him into the flawed man that he is. I love it when that character’s love interest helps them overcome some of the effects of that tragedy/trauma and accept the love that’s in their grasp. The chemistry between Michaela and Blake was great. They had a lot of steamy moments even before they decided to acknowledge their feelings for each other. But it wasn’t just about physical attraction. They cared deeply for each other and it was easy to see. They had good banter too. I loved the side characters as well. I love the sense of community among the players and they’re significant others. I love the found family vibe and this book has that. I loved seeing characters I met in the last book and it was nice to see Mac and Mia’s love still going strong.

This book has a third act break up but it fits into the natural flow of the story. It highlights the relatable flaws in the characters and further illustrates the growth both characters experience throughout the book.

The narrators, Scott Rose and Samantha Brentmoor, did a great job of bringing the story to life. Both authors are new to me and I really enjoyed their performances. They really brought out the humour, the tension and chemistry between the main characters. They highlighted the different personalities in the different characters they played and it was easy to follow along.

This is a great book if you like friends to lovers, found family and relatable characters with great character growth.

Fun and full of banter

This was a fun, emotional story. I love the chemistry & banter between Blake & Michaela
There were a lot of emotions, some upheaval, some frayed & fractured friendships, some hard & difficult truths, dysfunctional relationships. There were also amazing friendships, forgiveness, hope and love.
Both Blake & Michaela had things they had to deal with and overcome. The story was full of spice, sassiness and snark, falling hard & fast.
I absolutely loved the narration by Samantha Brentmoor, she always does an amazing job bringing her characters to life.
Scott Rose did a great job, bringing out all the layers of Blake, and his friends.

wrister

I loved the dual narration of Scott Rose and Samantha Brentmoor, who bring this roll coaster of a plot to your ears

When Blake and his teammate and roommate Owen Ferguson, meet their new neighbour, Michaela, it is Owen who calls dibs. While Owen is playing the field with women , it it Blake who sees her and chats with her. Michaela is a lawyer and is looking to become a partner one day. Making it hard for her date. That is even with her new neighbours. The more she meets and chats with Blake, the more she drawn to him and his nerdy trivia spurts. Because of the man code he gives off mixed signals, even though he is interested and is trying to be true to his Owen who claimed to be interested. Though Owen being a idiot. There is plenty of drama, family, angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance.

Great narration, stand alone story

I especially liked the audio version narrated by Samantha Brentmoor and new-to-me Scott Rose. They did a great job voicing the characters and kept me engaged in the story.

Twisted Wrister is the 7th book in the Playmakers series, but the events of this story are entirely separate and characters from previous books have only minor parts. It could easily be read as a stand alone. There are some tough topics incorporated into the story, and like several of the earlier books in the series, the relationships between the main characters and secondary characters evolve over the course of the story to add more depth to both the story line and the characters.

I received a copy of the book at my request, and the opinions here are my own.

Blake & Michaela!

If you love hockey romance, GK Brady is an author you do not want to miss. This is the 7th book in her Playmaker series and each one is fabulous! Featuring Blake and Michaela, the story is fun, frustrating, and filled with passion. These two are neighbors. Michaela is looking to make a name for herself at her law firm, and Blake shares his place with teammate and best friend Owen. When Blake and Michaela meet, there is instant chemistry, but Owen had mentioned her first and out of loyalty, Blake keeps her at arms length. Until he can no longer. But now what will happen? How will Owen take the newly formed couple? Will it ruin a lifelong friendship for a love that may not last? Not only is there the romance, but family and business also play a part in this story. Proving herself is not easy and there may be more at play than just performance. And Blake, he has some family issues he needs to face and deal with. How does it all end? Well, I am not going to tell you. This one had me frustrated at times, shocked at others and my heart was hurting and filled with love. All the feels come through and made this a fantastic listen

Scott Rose is the perfect Blake. He has a voice that can be so emotionally charged, and Blake had some true feelings that were tough. And then Rose can be cold as ice, proven at times as well. Samantha Brentmoor is Michaela, and she is so good at finding the niche with her characters. Between work and love, each feeling is realistic and easily touched my heart as Michaela dealt with it all. Together these two gave an amazing performance, keeping me engaged and my heart full.

Blake and Michaela!

Blake is dedicated to his dream of playing hockey professionally and wants to be there for his friend Owen as he was there for him when they were growing up. This causes some complications when they find themselves vying for the same position on the team and developing feelings for the same woman Michaela.

Michaela is a lawyer who specializes in real estate and is competing for a promotion at the law firm where she works. She has been invited to a social event by one of the partners and she needs a date and when Blake agrees to take it her it changes everything.

There is no denying the feelings between but when you throw in the demands of their careers as well as the complications that their family and friends bring it will take patience and understanding if they are to find their way to a happy ever after. The audio portrayal had you feeling both the strength and self-doubt that Michaela was feeling as well as the confident yet charming sides of Blake.

Great Story & Narration🎧 Captivating & Emotional!

G.K. Brady is back with another fantastic addition to her “Playmakers” series, a series of standalone sports romance novels with each book featuring a different player of the professional hockey team and their love interest or soon to be love interest. This seventh book is Blake Barrett and Michaela Wagner’s story, a story that grabbed my attention right from the start and captivated it straight to the end. Blake shares an apartment with his friend and teammate Owen Ferguson, who is a player on and off the ice. When they meet their new neighbor, Michaela, it is Ferguson who calls dibs, but it is Blake who interacts with her the most because Ferguson is too busy playing the field. Michaela is a lawyer working in a law firm and is looking to become a partner one day. The competition is fierce, but that does not intimidate her or her ambition. She has had no luck in the dating department and it has crossed her mind that maybe something could happen with one of her new neighbors. The thought was brief and the more she gets to know Blake, the more she drawn to him and his nerdy trivia spurts. He gives off mixed signals, so she is not sure he is interested. Except he is interested and is trying to be true to his friend who claims to be interested, though he has a funny way of showing it, or rather not showing it. I could not figure out Ferguson’s angle and was wondering why he was being such a jerk. Thankfully, he redeems himself and all is good in the end. Brady sure put these characters through the wringer and made them work to get to their happily ever after. I loved all the layers of the story, the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. There is plenty of drama, which includes family, relationship and workplace drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. G.K. Brady, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧And for the fabulous narration, Scott Rose and Samantha Brentmoor were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life and did so with a complete understanding of who they were, giving each a voice that was suitable and believable. Brentmoor nailed it as Michaela, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her sassy intelligence to her fierceness and all in between, including her caring and loving side. Rose nailed it as Blake Barrett and he, too, grasped all sides of his personality, from his insecurities to his confident side, as well as his nerdy side. Both were just as fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters, too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling each one.  These two made a great team, their voices and performance complimented each other and the quality of their audio was top-notch. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another amazing listen.
