Summary

Kathleen is eighty years old. After a run-in with an intruder, her daughter wants her to move into a residential home. She’s not having any of it. What she craves – needs – is adventure.

Liza is drowning under the daily stress of family life. The last thing she needs is her mother jetting off on a wild holiday, making Liza dream of a solo break of her own.

Martha is having a quarter-life crisis. Unemployed, unloved and uninspired, she just can’t get her life together. But she knows something has to change.

When Martha sees Kathleen’s advert for a driver and companion to take an epic road trip across America, she decides this job might be the answer to her prayers. Travelling with a stranger? No problem. She's not the world's best driver, but it couldn’t be worse than living with her parents again. And anyway, how much trouble can one eighty-year-old woman be?

As these women embark on the journey of a lifetime, they all discover it’s never too late for adventure…

Sunny summer listen, beautifully narrated

I've never read Sarah Morgan before and am not fond of chic lit but I liked this a lot. No great excitement but I loved getting to know the characters as events unfolded. The story concentrated on relationships and I was pleased that the romance was light touch and not the main focus. The beautiful tones of Georgina Sutton gave a suitable voice to each character and I particularly enjoyed listening to the irresistibly smooth voice used for Kathleen, the firm and feisty 80 year old. (In my head I pictured an older Honor Blackman.)The descriptions of the house in Cornwall made me envious, but at least in my mind I spent a few days there and enjoyed it. More could have been made of the route 66 road trip, sometimes there was just a passing reference to locations as thousands of miles passed, but I'm giving this story 5 stars because it brought me sunshine, made me smile and Georgina's narration kept me spellbound.

A Great Read

A lovely story that is sometimes funny, sometimes sad, but always entertaining and enjoyable. Just loved all the characters and the way they interact. Having done part of the Route 66 journey through Arizona it brought back happy memories for me too. If you are a fan of Sarah Morgan it is one of her best to date. if you haven't read her stories before give this one a try and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Tears , joy, laughter

What a wonderful story! I really loved the way it is built up and how difficult relationships in the core aren’t as difficult as they seem.

Fascinating tale

I loved this book. I sympathised with characters despised others and needed to listen to every word. I loved the adventures and learned a lot. I shall search out other books by Sarah Morgan. A fabulous story teller

Loved this from beginning to end. Just imagining it would have been something my mother would have done. Age is but a number. Keep on living and dreaming x
