Summary

Eli Monpress is talented. He's charming. And he's a thief.

But not just any thief. He’s the greatest thief of the age - and he’s also a wizard. And with the help of his partners - a swordsman with the most powerful magic sword in the world but no magical ability of his own, and a demonseed who can step through shadows and punch through walls - he’s going to put his plan into effect.

The first step is to increase the size of the bounty on his head, so he’ll need to steal some big things. But he’ll start small. He’ll just steal something that no one will miss - at least for a while.

Something like a king.

Critic reviews

"After a slow start, debut author Aaron pulls the action together and turns in a romp of a lighthearted fantasy starring an absolutely darling rogue." ( Publishers Weekly)

Story was ok, but the narration really wasn't good

Would you listen to The Spirit Thief again? Why?

No, the only thing that kept me going with this book was wanting to find out how it ended.

What other book might you compare The Spirit Thief to, and why?

I've not listened to anything like this for a while. It seems like it's aimed at a younger audience.

Would you be willing to try another one of Luke Daniels’s performances?

No, I will be avoiding his narration. There only seemed to be 3 different voices that he used for different characters (there were more than 3 characters in the book). There was the normal voice, the "standing so far away from the microphone that I couldn't hear him" voice and the big monstrous creature voice created by cupping his hands over his mouth.

If the rest of the series was voiced by someone else, I might finish the series one day but sadly that will not happen.

Any additional comments?

My opinion may have been spoilt by listening to the spectacular Lies of Locke Lamora just before this which is a pretty good book with the greatest voice acting I've ever heard.

A solid fantasy audiobook.

I must confess, I had actually read this series before on ebook. Loved it then and was looking forward to re-reading it again in audio. I'd say this audiobook was alright. Narrator did an alright job, but perhaps could've put more passion and emphasis as he read it. Otherwise the story is solid, a really enjoyable fantasy with charasmatic characters and a world which is really well developed. Would recommend.

An Original Tale of an almost Warcraft lore

I'm big into fantasy sci-fi and I play World of Warcraft. I found this book very amusing and original. I mainly listen to audiobooks whilst I quest in WoW and its a great listen. I recommend it.
