About this listen

Fans have described the trilogy as Game of Thrones meets The Three Musketeers.

When Soren is plucked from the streets and given a place at the prestigious academy of swordsmanship, he thinks his dream of being a great swordsman has become a possibility. However, with great intrigues unfolding all around him, Soren discovers that he is little more than a pawn to the ambitions of others.

As he is swept from high society into exile in foreign lands to escape those who see him as a threat, he must rely on a mysterious gift and the lessons learned at the academy if he hopes to survive in a society where disputes are settled with a sword.

The Society of the Swords Trilogy contains the complete series.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

I'm used to reading epics where the level of detail and description fill my mind and flesh out the story vividly. So when starting this trilogy I was apprehensive about the writing style. However, the author seems to be able to create great characters and environments with far less embellishment. It makes for a relatively fast paced story but without feeling like you don't know the characters.

I really enjoyed it and it was well worth the one credit it cost me. Definitely worth a listen in my opinion 👍

Ok but predictable.

Ok, but an old story redone. predictable from the start, poor bloke wins in the end. Well read though.

Really good story read by a master narrator

I choose this book because I like the writing style of Duncan Hamilton and Derek Perkins is an awesome narrator. I was not disappointed. The story line is solid, providing enough detail for the reader/listener to visualise the story as it unfolds. Derek Perkins narration is as usual, masterly.

Well worth the investment of both money and time.

Nothing extraordinary but perfectly acceptable.

Very well performed, however the writing style was slightly too descriptive and often repeatative. Easy to listen to and an acceptable example of the genre.

Enthralling.

Thoroughly enjoyable story, great narration. What’s not to enjoy? As with all DMH’s books , the characters are built as the story progresses which makes you want to keep listening.

characters lacked charisma. especially away from the protagonist. But a good story, world and value for money. narrator was clear .
