About this listen

This is the original 1928 edition of "The Skylark of Space", as published in Hugo Gernsback's legendary Amazing Stories magazine:

In a fortuitous laboratory accident, crack scientist Richard Seaton has unlocked the secret of atomic energy. Now, partnered with his wealthy engineering-genius friend Martin Crane, he's preparing to give the world the gift of limitless, virtually free energy - and of space travel. But others want Seaton's secret for themselves. Backed by an evil industrial trust, the sinister and unscrupulous "Blackie" DuQuesne has a plan to kill Seaton and Crane and seize their invention for himself. But when DuQuesne makes his move, things go wrong, and the three of them wind up lost in the farthest reaches of outer space.

Classic

Revisiting a classic story that I hadn't read for a long time.
It was interesting to hear somebody else's idea of what each character sounded like.
The sound was a little sketchy in places but generally ok.

the story is fine but i take issue with the editor

this story begins and is interrupted by an editor who seems to belive the audience are of such small mindedness and idiocy that the story needs to be explained by himself in order for the readers to grasp the concepts and ideas, frankly it takes away from the overall story despite not being part of it.

Brilliant story, awful narration!

Always loved the Skylark series, and bought this Audible book on the basis it is the latest recording. I now understand why only the first book was narrated as the rendition is simply horrible to listen to.

Strongly recommend the earlier recordings as they are much better!
