About this listen

She’s woken up in a life she doesn’t recognise - with a daughter she doesn’t remember.

When Charlotte McKay wakes up in a hospital bed with no memory of how she got there, all she wants is to go back to the perfect London flat she shares with her husband, and the impressive career she’s worked so hard to build. But something’s not right. Her husband David is at her bedside - but so is a three-year-old girl, and she’s calling Charlotte "Mummy"....

Charlotte’s first instinct is panic. When - why - did she have a child? What about her promotion, her independence, her romantic weekends with David? She loved being that woman: how can she have turned into the stay-at-home mother she swore she’d never be?

Back at home, she dives into her unfamiliar world, hoping to piece together the mystery of her transformation. But faced with so much that feels foreign and unnatural, will she ever be happy in a life she can’t remember having - or wanting to have?

Prioritising and Motherhood

At the start of this book I kept waiting for a big reveal once a secret was revealed. But it turned out to be a story about getting priorities sorted out once you have a child.

The start of the book is about a woman Charlotte who was virtually a workaholic and loved her job and the bread winner whilst her husband David had a job he hated and things change as they do when Charlotte becomes pregnant. Charlotte is working her way up for a big promotion and being pregnant gets in the way. The plan is for David to be a stay at home Dad in an attempt to give his child the father they need that he missed out on.

Fast forward to the child being around 3 years old and Charlotte has a car accident. One complication is Charlotte has no memory of being pregnant let alone having a baby. Once she goes home all is not as she remembered as her usually loving husband is acting very strangely and is very distant. Then the books goes on trying to piece her memory back together and her husband is living with a secret that he feels will end things. Still a good read once I got my head around the secret he is hiding not being what I thought, but all the while David was waiting to move out once she remembers
