To solve an impossible murder, you need an impossible hero…

Seventy-seven-year-old Judith Potts is blissfully happy. She lives alone in a faded mansion in Marlow, sets crosswords for The Times, and there’s no man in her life to tell her what to do or how much whisky to drink.

One evening, while out swimming in the Thames, Judith witnesses a brutal murder. When the local police don’t believe her story, Judith and two unlikely friends decide to investigate for themselves. Together, they are the Marlow Murder Club.

But soon another body turns up, and it seems they have a real-life serial killer on their hands. Now the puzzle they set out to solve has become a trap from which they might never escape…

Think people need to take things less seriously

If everyone else is going to mention another book in their review I will as well. I didn't enjoy this as much as the Thursday Murder Club and that's fine!
This book is well written and I really liked some of the characters. I didn't like the main character though. Also whilst I liked the vicars wife the best, I thought her character arc was a bit predictable.
Overall though I really enjoyed it! So what if there's another book with a similar title and old lady in it - there are only so many interesting plots to be had and both books are good and vary a lot in other ways!

Average ..

I brought this Audible book as many of the reviews compare it to another book, The Thursday murder club.. and most said this one was better …. Well I have to disagree, sometimes it got confusing which character was talking and the end was a bit boring the main character seemed to go on and on … and it was some what predictable. Where as I’ve rushed out to by the second book of the Thursday Murder Club, I won’t with this one, it was just ok, a nice listen.

Great fun

This is indeed a gentle whodunit, but with plenty of charm and enough pace to keep you engaged. The reader does a great job with the voices of the three key players, particularly with Judith, where she conveys well the authoratative tone and phrasing of a previous generation. This would make a great TV adaptation.

Enticing

The narrator was an excellent choice, the story is very well written. Twists and turns but easy to follow, it had me gripped.

disappointing

Too much description, not believable scenarios and everything but the kitchen sink thrown in to the slapstick ending. not so much an 'edge of seat' more a 'please get to the end'

Feels like an old idea

Very disappointing. I loved Thursday Murder club but this just feels like it’s coined the ideal but the characters weren’t as engaging or funny. Wit was ok but not laugh out loud .

The Marlowe Murder

A great tale well written and such fun to listen to . I enjoyed the characters and the high jinx they got up to . I can’t wait to read another in this series .

Gently gripping

Twists and turns amidst a middle class unlikely friendship. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and feel the reading enhanced my enjoyment.

Not sure at first, but it was a good story

I found the hero rather annoying, but got used to her, although her bossy voice didn’t help, but it was the right voice for the character.

Fantastic story

I really enjoyed this book and the narrator certainly brings the characters to life especially Judith. This is on a par with the Richard Osman books. It has interesting twists and turns and comedy woven through it. I’m part way through book two and will continue with book three when it is released.
