But there are androids among them seeking to use the starship for hidden purposes.

Held me Captive

This was the first Vaughn Heppner audiobook I tried out for size. It really caught my attention so much so that I've been glued to the series. Personally, I find this particular series brilliant both in scale and its complex storyline which never gets too cloudy as to lose the thread of where it's taking its reader. Marvellous piece of work and the narrator is just right for it too. Well worth listening to, but I suggest you begin with the first book in the series rather than mirroring me.

Navigating the Galactic Abyss: A Riveting Journey

In "The Lost Patrol," the fifth installment of the Lost Starship series by Vaughn Heppner, Starship Victory embarks on a daring mission that propels Captain Maddox and his crew into the far reaches of space. This galactic odyssey is rife with suspenseful twists and challenges, offering readers a thrilling voyage through uncharted territory. While the narrative maintains its gripping allure, a few questionable character decisions give rise to head-scratching moments.

Captain Maddox and his intrepid crew venture thousands of light-years away from Earth, in pursuit of the elusive Swarm Imperium. Amidst the vastness of space, androids with hidden agendas threaten to unravel their mission from within. As they navigate treacherous terrain both inside and outside the ship, the crew stumbles upon a revelation that eclipses any previous danger they've faced.

At the heart of the story are the AI Galyan, Meta, Sergeant Riker, and their fellow crew members. Their collective efforts to aid Captain Maddox in the face of mounting challenges underscore the core theme of unity and camaraderie. Victory's survival hinges on their ability to navigate an intricately woven web of alien perils and enigmatic mysteries.

However, the narrative presents a perplexing element in Valerie's character. Her persistent questioning of orders and her presence in authoritative roles during critical moments can be puzzling. The reader is left wondering about the rationale behind such decisions, given the gravity of the situations. This inconsistency raises eyebrows and occasionally disrupts the immersion into an otherwise captivating storyline.

Nevertheless, "The Lost Patrol" doesn't falter in delivering an enthralling blend of exploration, tension, and intrigue. As Captain Maddox and his crew plunge deeper into the cosmic abyss, readers are treated to a narrative brimming with excitement and surprises. The allure of venturing into uncharted territory, the interplay of internal and external challenges, and the uncovering of the darkest secrets maintain the series' trademark thrill.

In summation, "The Lost Patrol" offers readers a thrilling journey through the unknown, balanced with moments of unease due to certain character choices. Vaughn Heppner continues to masterfully weave a tale that captures the essence of spacefaring adventure while immersing readers in a world of unforeseen dangers and mysteries waiting to be unraveled.

Bearable

I am at a loss to understand why any captain of any ship would have Valerie anywhere near the bridge with her continual questioning of orders in front of crew and the enemy, let alone leave her in charge of a bridge! Perhaps you just can’t get the staff in the future!

This series just keep getting better for me.

Narration was clear and well preformed. Both he and the story (writer) keep me listening on the edge of my seat.

I should point out that I've really come enjoy this series and may be a little biased.
