Summary
A Soulblight Gravelords Novel
A doomed vampire faces down the nature of her curse, and the righteous fury of the faithful of Sigmar.
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
It’s a fascinating look into the twisted nobility of the Soulblight vampires, and the curse they carry in their blood.
THE STORY
Nyssa Volari is dying. But that is impossible, because she is a Soulblight vampire, blessed by Nagash with blood-fuelled immortality. More than that, Nyssa is a fighter – one of the handful of Kastelai vampires not dissolved into true death when the Crimson Keep abandoned them a century ago. With her blades and her will, she carved a kingdom out of the Broken Plains of Aqshy.
These things matter little, for Nyssa's blood is cursed. It destroyed the vampire she called father, and as it threatens to do the same to her, Nyssa's allies abandon her one by one. Worse still, an army of zealots led by a brutal priest of Sigmar comes to destroy the vampire lord and claim her birthright.
Nyssa Volari is dying. But that is impossible, because she has spent every moment of her second life refusing to lose.

A great listen
Lots of interesting bits of lore and insights. Many plot points crammed into the first half of the book. This is understandable for a one off, but the ending leaves the question of a potential sequel.
Would have been better suited to being split over two books as part of a trilogy. In that sense the flow of the book is vexing, because you want more of what it does well, but it seems limited by what Black Library / Games Workshop we’re willing to plan for.
There are also a few obscure details in the book that feed into plot points, and go against some specific points mentioned in other bits of Soul Blight lore. These didn’t really need to be added, which is both interesting and vexing. Interesting because it would be nice if these are expanded upon in the wider literature in the future as opposed to being retconned, but vexing as they likely won’t be adopted, as it goes against lore for models that already exist. In case of the latter, it would be best they were left out rather than stretch the lore back and forth, making it seem as though such works have zero impact at all on the lore.

A solid story.
Overall a good story with a solid performance from both voice actresses.
The protag wasn't the best but I feel like there's room for her to grow into someone memorable in possible sequels.

Slow burner...
I originally found it a hard listen but once it got going, it eventually captured my interest.
Enjoy a good win for the 'evil' party, however, the good guys always have to be lead by a tyrant or fanatic with a clouded personal agenda.
All in all, a typical story. Decent characters and heavily described fight scenes. The use of 'adult' language gave it a realistic edge.
Liked the use of more than one voice actor, however, feel there should be more added to capture the essence and gravitas of the characters within the book more accurately and not left to the one or two actors to try and deepen or exaggerate their own to fit,
Feel the end battle could have felt more epic but all-in-all, a decent listen.

Vampire story
Loved the highly descriptive battles. Wasn't too enthralled with the protagonist. Always a 'sucker' for a vampire story.

Stake this to your library for a good read
Stories is well, paced and great action in both of the narrators, do a brilliant job in bringing the characters from both sides to life.
If you’ve got into the new grave Lord’s book, this is definitely a great read to get creative juices flowing .

Best AoS to date
Interesting characters with a decent plot that had a number of twists and turns. Performances were both fantastic as well. Easily the best Sigmar book I’ve listened to date.
