Summary

Northumberland, 1809: A beautiful young heiress disappears from her locked bedchamber at Linn Hagh. The local constables are baffled and the townsfolk cry "witchcraft".

The heiress' uncle summons help from Detective Lavender and his assistant, Constable Woods, who face one of their most challenging cases: The servants and local gypsies aren't talking, Helen's siblings are uncooperative, and the sullen local farmers are about to take the law into their own hands.

Lavender and Woods find themselves trapped in the middle of a simmering feud as they uncover a world of family secrets, intrigue and deception in their search for the missing heiress.

Taut, wry, and delightful, The Heiress of Linn Hagh is a rollicking tale featuring Lavender and Woods—a double act worthy of Holmes and Watson.

A delightful and most enjoyable mystery.

"The Heiress of Linn Hagh" is a delightful mystery, well written and paced, full of interesting characters and with a masterfully crafted atmosphere. I can't wait to read the rest of the series. This was such a treat!

Absolutely Brilliant!

I had been searching for a regency novel with an iron-clad plot line and relatable, likeable characters relevant to that period in history for quite some time. Am I ever so glad to have had this suggested to me by Kindle based on my current library. Thank you Karen Charlton for authoring a wonderful work of literature ❤️

The narration just elevates EVERYTHING to a whole new level of wondrous escapism! Michael Page is a joy to listen to! I feel super happy & relieved that there are FIVE more Detective Lavender audible books out there for further enjoyment.

Enjoyable old-style detective fiction

Set in the Regency period and in the early years of the Bow Street police force this is a rollicking good yarn of good policemen pitted against dastardly relatives trying to get hold a young heiresses fortune. It's a gripping story that kept me listening helped by the bravura performance of the narrator.

Good story - dubious accents

Really enjoyed the story and the narration - apart from the Northumbrian accents were very very bad. So bad that when some characters spoke, my first thought was how bad the accent was.

The pace was great and the narration was too, aside from the accents of all the Northerners! I think the actual book must have the speech written as a Geordie would speak, so when it is narrated it is just an Southern English voice saying Geordie words!

I will definitely listen to the next book.

A bit if a disappointing story line

I read the reviews and was looking forward to a rip roaring story but I’d guessed the plot very quickly. It was well read and I’ll most probably look for another story in this series to see if it’s any better. It’s worth a listen though… But in my opinion not as good as the five star reviews given… but each to their own… I’ve given 5 star reviews to some books that others have given 1… it is a predictable story line though 🥲
