About this listen

This is a story from the Grimm's Fairy Tales collection.

Here are some of the most enchanting fairy stories of all time. The Brothers Grimm conjure up a world of fantasy, hope and good fortune where the princess meets and marries the right prince (even if he once was a frog), and where the cruel witch, the arrogant wife and the greedy wolf get their comeuppance. It is a magical world which we must all inhabit at one time in our lives and which are as important in this computer age as ever before.

Editor reviews

In the Brothers Grimm’s "The Golden Goose", a young and least-loved brother is rewarded for an act of compassion with a goose made of gold. The only catch? Anyone who attempts to steal a precious feather from the curious creature finds themselves stuck to the animal!

Laura Paton is in her element performing this sly tale of kindness and greed, and her light, lilting voice is perfectly suited to the ludicrous humor that makes this story such a delight to hear.
