About this listen

Twenty years running from your past. Today it catches up.

A gripping psychological thriller for fans of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.

Leah Mills lives a life of a fugitive - kept on the run by one terrible day from her past. It is a lonely life, without a social life or friends until, longing for a connection, she meets Julian.

For the first time she dares to believe she can live a normal life. Then, on the 20th anniversary of that day, she receives a card. Someone knows the truth about what happened. Someone who won't stop until they've destroyed the life Leah has created. But is Leah all she seems? Or does she deserve everything she gets?

Everyone has secrets. But some are deadly.

The Girl with No Past spent over four weeks at number one in the Amazon chart.

Worth a listen

I did like this book. I didn’t find it exciting, or nerve wracking or anything but a few twists which were enjoyable. The narrator was good and easy to listen to.

surprisingly good

I have listened to books narrated by Lisa Coleman and find her voice slightly grating but certainly not the worst! I was unsure where this was going but enjoyed it in the end.

A good, if a bit drawn out, read

Enjoyed this book but felt it was a little overlong. The story was good was there was too much scene setting and too much time spent on over description. Saying that it is a good thriller with plenty of twists and turns and is quite a page turner. I enjoyed and would recommend.

Predictable ending

It’s the second book I’ve read by this author, in both books the ending was predictable. I very disappointing read for a thriller.

Harrowing

A disturbing story read by a monotone narrator. Nevertheless I recommend seeing it through to the end.

Amazing

I can't believe this Audible Book, slipped through the net! It was so well narrated and for me brought the characters alive. I raced along with the twists and turns. Yes I did manage to guess the culprit, however I needed to find out if I was correct. It's one of those storylines that you struggle to put down. It doesn't ruin the novel even if you guess, as there are other pieces that need to be tied up. I don't normally enjoy books that skip back and forth. This was written in such a way that was not too confusing and relevant throughout! Extra bargain price in the £3 sale. Not everybody's cup of tea, I expect and can see from some of the reviews, although that is understandable. Not all of the population like the colour red 😂 for £3 I can't see any real disappointed listeners out there. So make the most of the sale and go for it.

The Girl With No Past

I would say that this book was a little too slow to start and therefore may put some listeners off. The central character, Leah, is a librarian (What *is* it with thrillers featuring librarians?) and quite honestly, even the cheapest smallest flat in Wandsworth would be out of the price range of a public sector worker.

It was a bit like re-living a bizarre dream. The crime Leah and her teenage friends carried out was so serious, one really doubted the outcome?

Apart from one detail it’s quite predictable

But it was an emotional ’read’. The characters and situations were very believable and horrific. I was really engaged with the story. Unusually, I was left with questions at the end, as if there is meant to be another book, but I guess the author left unnecessary details out in order to make the horror have more impact. I would say, don’t read this book if a topic could cause you distress, but when I think of it there are a number of issues that could be triggering. So, DON’T READ OR LISTEN TO THIS IF THERE ARE TOPICS THAT COULD CAUSE YOU PERSONAL DISTRESS - THERE ARE A LOT OF POTENTIALLY TRIGGERING SCENES IN THIS BOOK. If that isn’t a concern for you, and you enjoy strong writing and scary stories, with an excellent narrator, then I heartily recommend this.

Formulaic

The main character's continual references to the 'big thing' that has happened, whilst drip feeding the details in flashbacks, soon becomes very tedious and feels very manipulative as a writing style. That, along with the character's tendency to put a negative slant on *everything* that is said, or happens, to her, make this a frustrating listen.

Not my favourite of this author's books, sadly.
