About this listen
After surviving the Napoleonic Wars, Sir Benedict Harper is struggling to move on, his body and spirit in need of a healing touch. Never does Ben imagine that hope will come in the form of a beautiful woman who has seen her own share of suffering. After the lingering death of her husband, Samantha McKay is at the mercy of her oppressive in-laws - until she plots an escape to distant Wales to claim a house she has inherited. Being a gentleman, Ben insists that he escort her on the fateful journey. Ben wants Samantha as much as she wants him, but he is cautious. What can a wounded soul offer any woman? Samantha is ready to go where fate takes her, to leave behind polite society and even propriety in her desire for this handsome, honorable soldier. But dare she offer her bruised heart as well as her body? The answers to both their questions may be found in an unlikely place: in each other’s arms.

Circumventing propriety
I couldn’t help thinking this story had a slow start as I only started really enjoying it with 4 hrs left to listen.
However, I loved the story
I was surprised female lead character chose to travel a long distance alone with no chaperone but I loved how everything came together in the end.
Adding The Suitor novella at the end was a nice touch

Charming romances
The Survivors' Club members are all delicious and Benedict is no exception. The slow burn of his and Samantha's romance is sensitively told.
I also enjoyed the novella.

2 For the ‘price’ of 1.
Book 3 of The Survivors Club (plus Book 1.5 - The Suitor)
Interesting and less credible than the previous 2 in the series, but not unenjoyable.
One of the things that I am enjoying in this series, is the ‘introduction’ of the various “solutions/aids/support systems”, which make the stories really credible. This is no exception. For those readers with mobility challenges, this may resonate.
Once again Rosalyn Landor did a fantastic job narrating this, the Welsh accents were lovely and seamlessly rendered.
“The Suitor” is really the sub story to “The Arrangement”. Although it was written/published beforehand, I would recommend that it is read afterward because otherwise it ‘may’ lessen the impact of the story. It was great to have this tale though, it DOES complete the narrative, but Audible doesn’t offer it as a standalone audiobook, so I was very grateful to have it included on this. (It also makes one feel Much Better about Miss Deene). 😉

good plot
Balogh just writes very well and the lady who reads her books to me makes me believe whole heartedly in the free flowing stories that unfold. This volume is to be commmended. Richard Goodwin
