About this listen

Harry Bosch is facing the end of the line. He's been put on the DROP - Deferred Retirement Option Plan - and given three years before his retirement is enforced. Seeing the end of the mission coming, he's anxious for cases. He doesn't have to wait long.

First a cold case gets a DNA hit for a rape and murder which points the finger at a 29-year-old convicted rapist who was only eight at the time of the murder. Then a city councilman's son is found dead - fallen or pushed from a hotel window - and he insists on Bosch taking the case despite the two men's history of enmity. The cases are unrelated, but they twist around each other like the double helix of a DNA strand. One leads to the discovery of a killer operating in the city for as many as three decades; the other to a deep political conspiracy that reached back into the dark history of the police department.

A very good murder mystery

This book is a satisfyingly complex murder mystery based in LA. Actually, you get two plots for the price of one. The characters are well drawn and there are twists and turns along the way. If you are a Michael Connelly fan, then you will enjoy this book. The narration was good, although I have heard better. Nevertheless, I enjoyed listening and I recommend this audible book to murder mystery fans.

The true feeling of horror at the crime.

A great balance of hard nosed detective work and the reality of personal relationships that make the work worthwhile.

Outstanding

Harry at his best sorting out the difference between what people say and what they mean all against a backdrop of high jingoistic intrigue

Bosch at his best

Michael Connelly continues to excel with his Harry Bosch stories, this one some added political intrigue as he copes with two cases one old and one new. Len Cariou's performance brings the story to life .

great book narrator not so much

great story couldn't turn it off
only down side that the narrator was a wee bit too gruff and inflexible in the voice side of things but I would recommend this book

Love Harry Bosch

Ive read several of Michael Connelly's novels and Harry Bosch is my favourite character. I like Harry and Micky Haller together and I found the story well constructed. I enjoyed the characters and the story kept me engrossed to the end. I am already looking forward to next instalment. Recommended.

Always a good read/listen!

Can't wait for his next book to come out. I enjoy the way he writes and the plots are always very good.

Harry Bosch has a good interesting career!

This had two cases in one book - great listening.

"Jumping the warrent."

I had read the book previously but this time I returned to it on audio. Two main cases: was the death of councillor Irving's son a murder or a suicide? and a search for a cold case killer. Both intertwined with the minimal private life of Harry Bosch. Superbly tracked and related, personal in tone as well as police procedural.
Narration is by Len Cariou, his mid tone voice is slightly gruff and occasionally hesitant. His reading is a little slow, much better played back at 1.1 or 1.2 but is otherwise good, well modulated with good, individual voicing of each character.

Number 15 in the superb Harry Bosch series but easily read as a stand alone (though better with the ongoing background knowledge which comes from starting with the first). Like all of those books preceding The Drop, it is Highly recommended.
