Summary

A chance encounter with a tabloid playboy lands a scrappy waif a place in high society.

Fainting in the notorious nobleman’s arms is the smartest move the self-proclaimed spazz ever made. Now her picture decorates every gossip rag in Britain, and the public wants to know who the Devil Duke’s new squeeze is.

Offered a sizable sum, Izzy De Luca travels to England where she will pose as the Duke of Devoy’s new bride. It seems the rake’s reputation needs some rehabilitation, and the fresh-faced orphan is just the girl to brighten his tarnished image.

Izzy enters a lavish world of wealth and privilege, but soon realizes her uptight employer is no laid-back lady charmer. Sparks fly between the two when the spirited American lets the impossibly handsome blue blood know she won’t be gentrified without a fight.

As they play out the carefully constructed charade, the jaded Duke finds himself drawn to Izzy’s rare brand of charm, and what begins as a collision of worlds ends in a union of love.

This may be a modern day Cinderella story, but this feisty commoner is no simpering sweetheart. She means to give our titled hero a run for his millions.

Demon Devil Duke!

This is the first book from this author and I have to say it was spectacular. This book is like a modern fairytale but it’s hilarious, sweet and Romantic. They annoy each other with witty banter.
I found myself laughing out loud, even getting funny looks from people around me.
The narrator does a wonderful British accent and America accent. I definitely enjoyed listening to this narrator.
I am leaving an honest review for a book I requested. I can honestly say I’m happy I did I loved listening to this book. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Good Book

This book seems like a modern day fairy tale. Some of the story seemed rushed and Izzy was a bit annoying. But I love fairy tales and especially Cinderella.. These characters are interesting for the most part. This is a story that you should at least give a chance.

A nice twist to a Cinderella story

The Duke, Trevor has a history of being a playboy and he’s wanting to clean up his public reputation. He had met Izzy, when he needed to buy a shirt and the paparazzi mistook Izzy as his new love. Izzy is a young American that is struggling to have enough money for a meal and comes from a troubled past. The Duke and Izzy are vastly different in their personality and backgrounds but they do find themselves drawn to each other. The passion they have in dislike for each other grows into something more, you will get frustrated with some of their actions but you will also laugh and cry. It has a wonderful HEA, the narrative was good at making the story come to life.

hilarious

What a hilarious book, Isobel's sassy take no prisoners attitude was just brilliant, and had me laughing out loud as she drove her duke to distraction, and Virginia Ferguson's voice really brought the book to life..

Izzy and Trevor

The Devil Duke by Tessa Bowen is a modern-day Cinderella romance about Izzy DeLuca a young American girl who faints into the arms of The Devil Duke when he comes into the shop she is working at to buy a new shirt. Paparazzi take numerous photographs of her in his arms which add fuel to his notorious reputation but by some fluke, the man in the street think she's wonderful and are happy he has fallen in love with a commoner. A short time later Izzy is offered a sizable sum to travel to England and marry the Duke to help him redeem his reputation.

The Duke - Trevor - is, at the start of the story, very unlikeable stuffy and pompous. Whereas Izzy is wild, she has short dark hair with a purple streak, wears outlandish clothes and refuses to comply with his demands. Never the less they each decide that they will go through with this marriage. The Duke's elderly secretary Sir Archibald and the Duke's 13-year-old daughter are both lovely characters who are important to the story.

As the story progresses feelings become involved on both sides but the Duke seems to think that he can have his cake and eat it too as he has his 'friend' the Baroness almost always at his estate, how is that going to work? When Izzy decided enough is enough and leaves, Trevor has to come to terms with the fact that he will need to really change if he wants to win her back. By the end of the book Izzy and Trevor had totally won me over and what started out as a business arrangement turned into so much more.

The story is narrated by Virginia Ferguson who did a wonderful job narrating the different voices for all the characters. However, the voice she used for Izzy who is 20 sometimes sounded a little young. The Duke's voice I think was perfect, so pompous sometimes and charming at others just like the man himself.

This is the first book of Tessa Bowen's that I have listened to but I plan to listen to the next book in this series.

I received this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.

Hilarious & Very Enjoyable

I love this audiobook; it's quirky, playful and thoroughly entertaining, with many laugh-aloud moments. The storyline is engaging, a rendition of a modern fairy-tale, where a commoner finds love with a charming royalty. It began with a chance encounter between, Izzy, a department store clerk and Trevor, the Devil Duke of Devoy.

Trevor is on a mission to change his playboy ways and becoming a country gentleman. He has a plan, a pretended marriage. He'll get the media off his back, repair his reputation, while allowing him to direct his attention to fatherhood. It all sounds great in theory, but some things are easier said than done. What wasn't considered is Izzy herself, the much younger fake bride. Like a ball of hyper-energy, Izzy bounces into Trevor's life, turning it inside out with her adorable ways. Before Trevor realizes, Izzy has warmed her itsy-bitsy self into his heart.

In addition to a well-composed story, Tessa Bowen has done an exceptional job with character developments. Izzy and Trevor are the polar opposites with charged chemistry, pulsating to erupt. She is very petite, spunky, and lively. He on the other is, the classic playboy bachelor, tall, elegant, seductive, extravagant, and notably handsome. Together, they are fascinating and hilarious, their back and forth banter will keep you smiling throughout the book.

The narration by Virginia Ferguson is outstanding, she really channelled the characters and their personality quirks. I wholly enjoyed her performance. Overall, this is a fun and very enjoyable audiobook and highly recommend it.

My Thoughts on The Devil Duke

Right from the beginning this story started off interesting. The leading lady was lively and interesting. She was spunky and I loved how she gave the Duke a run for his money. The Duke had one of those personalities that as was off putting but in that way where you're just waiting to see the good side of him. You know it's in him, you know just have to wait. But as I waited I got this highly entertaining story that was funny and so well told by narrator Virginia Ferguson. Her British accent seemed really well suited for the story. It seemed like the perfect fit. I think the only thing that occasionally threw me was that sometimes I think the accent slipped a bit when she was switching between the third person pov and voicing Izzy's American voice. But it wasn't anything that could make you dislike her narration at all. I definitely liked her.

Overall this was a good introduction to this author for me and I look forward to more books by her.

Quirky , funny modern day Cinderella

I really enjoyed this book. Lots of lol moments and swoony that Izzy a store clerk finds herself a Duke. Trevor needed Izzy to calm down his reputation but she may be more than he bargained for.

I’m really excited that it’s a series and I get to hear more about these fun characters.

Virginia is new to me. I enjoyed her performance and found it easy to follow along with her and could easily distinguish between them. At times I felt I could hear her swallow and found it strange.

Really fun, easy going story that pulled my heart strings.

certain phrasing should not be used

i have mixed feelings about this book. The story plot was ok with plenty of laugh out moments, but the reason for my low star rating is i found it offending at times. The way Izzy spoke using variations of the word spazz and pervert. It made it hard to listen too at times struggled to finish.
