About this listen
"Between the thick fur and my own nerves, it took longer than it should’ve to find the fluttering proof of his heartbeat. I’d known he was alive since he didn’t smell like death. No...he smelled like...home. Like my home. The one place where I would always belong.
Lucian Smith, unwanted at birth, is a defiant alpha who’d not only dare anyone to call him unclaimed, he’d proudly display the proof. He doesn’t want or need a pack other than the family he’s built with his crew - the West Coast Wolves. For so long, it was just them - an unlikely pack of alphas who took to the open road and helped where they could, doing random acts of kindness and expecting nothing in return.
Until the first of one of them stepped up when duty called and took his own pack to rule. This ended the brothers-in-arms’ days of riding wherever the road took them when fate conspired to give each of the brothers a pack to rule. Even Lucian... the unlikely defiant alpha who would not only dare anyone to call him unclaimed, but proudly display the proof.
While out on a night’s ride, Lucian comes across a half-dead dog on the side of the road. After stopping to help, he discovers it’s no dog, it’s a shifter - an omega wolf. The true mate Lucian never dared hoped for is now in his arms, if he can just rescue him first. Little does he know there are a dozen more omegas who need saving; his mate is just the start.
With a secret over 20 years old and millions of dollars at stake, the people who stole innocent babies with plans for the ultimate payday won’t let go of them easily. Except, even omegas have hidden strength and their own ways to fight back. With the help of his crew, Lucian is in a unique position to help these lost young men and set right to old wrongs.
This is the second book about finding joy in a hard world, building a family, and discovering that life can surprise a person when they least expect it. Although this world has harsher themes than my previous books, it still has the same heart you’d expect. Plus a dose of my irreverent humor and all the naughty, knotty heat that comes with true mates. It wouldn’t be a Susi Hawke book without it.
Note: possible trigger warning for mentions of stillbirth, medical abuse, and child abduction.

Defiant at its best
Lucian is unashamed of being an unmarked Alpha and found his family with the fellow Alphas of the West Coast Wolves. When he finds his mate near death ont he side of the road, he never could have imagined what Thirteen will bring into his life. Thirteen has had a very sheltered and tragic life but with the help of his brothers, he tries to find help for them with an escape.
You will find yourself absolutely drawn in by Nick's talent at bringing an unique voice to each character. Amazing as always.

The Defiant Alpha - so good
Gosh, I love this series so much. Each book is a mini-epic adventure into heavy, yet it remains unburdensome to the reader. Hawke knows just what to show, just what to tell, and just what to leave to nuance. The love story remains forefront in a sea of adventure, suspense, and emotions, all while being what feels on the shorter side. The only reason I notice it's a quicker listen is that I want more, even though it feels resolved. I very much recommend.

... and the story is getting better...
When one of the books of your favorite author is narrated by one of your favorite voice actors, the result is simply a must have. In this book 2, the plot is getting more twisted and complex in a way just Ms Hawks could achieve. I don't want to spoil anything for you, but we could find in the story more fated love, more babies, in between action and danger, some angst, intrigue and a mystery. The narration made by Mr Russo is amazing and his acting skills and beautiful voice captivated me. A perfect way to re read a favorite ebook. Loved it!

Dark, Deep, and Moving
Some Susi Hawke books are funny. Some are sweet. Some are dark. Then there are the West Coast Wolves books. These books go there. To the dark places. To the horrific events that can be wrought upon the weak by the powerful.
Thirteen is being held captive. He doesn’t understand why. He’s been held since he was an infant, forced to grow up in a virtual prison with other omegas. He’s watched enough movies to know his life isn’t normal. He’s been indoctrinated into how his purpose in life is to serve alphas. He just doesn’t know to what end. Then things become clear, and he knows he has to escape. Right now.
Lucian was a bastard, never claimed by anyone. He bears no scar above his heart. He belongs to no one. Except he’s joined with a rag tag group of alphas who roam up and down the California coast, setting to right injustices, but keeping their own counsel. He’s a member of the West Coast Wolves Motor Cycle Cub and he does belong, but he’s also missing something.
Then he finds a dog in the road and his whole life changes. The dog is a wolf. An omega. And Lucian’s fated mate. And as much as he wants to claim his mate, there are things to be figured out – like where this omega has come from and why is he so skittish? Who are his kin? What danger might they be in?
The alpha and the omega come together, and then it’s incumbent on the West Coast Wolves to right the wrongs perpetrated against Thirteen and his ‘brothers’. Proof that family is more than just blood ties.
Like I said, this book goes to tough places. There are trigger warnings for a reason. But there is also hopefulness in the story. And, of course, because it’s a Susi Hawke, I also got my happy ending.
Nick J. Russo narrates these stories, and I have to say it’s a good fit. He does the books justice and there are more in the series, so here’s hoping they come to audio soon.

Sweet and emotional
Lucian and Charlie’s story was emotional and beautiful. Charlie was sweet and he didn’t let his past hold him back from having a happy future.
A fantastic series that keeps getting better.

Enjoyable and sweet
I really enjoyed the second audiobook in the West Coast Wolves Series. There is a little angst, plenty of drama, some funny and snarky interaction, true mates, and babies. I loved seeing Lucian shape up and fit into his new pack, and then fate brings him his mate at just the right time. What poor 13 suffered to reach Lucien was terrible, but I loved his spirit, and fortunately the healer was able to make him good as new. I love the omegas and the special gifts they have. It's a unique take on omegas, and I felt like I didn't get enough information about these gifts in the first book. That is certainly remedied here, and I absolutely loved how the omegas supported each other and were able to stand together and help themselves when needed. It was great to see Lucian find his home after being unwanted and packless for so long.
The narration by Nick Russo was great. His attention to detail, emotional delivery, and good pacing really bring the characters to life. The audio was also well-edited with no repeated lines, mis-spoken words, or long pauses.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

I defiantly challenge you not to like this book
This is The Defiant Alpha Book 2 in The West Coast Wolves seriesby Susi Hawke.
The is my favouite so far.
Lucian was reluctant to have his own pack until he killed another pack's alpha . On his way to meet his new pack he comes across a dog lying on the side of the road and is drawn to it. It turns out to be his fated mate
.Only known as Thirteen, he has escaped from his life in captivity with up to 15 other young omegas. He got wind that he was about to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, so the omegas put into action their long standing plan to escape.
This tells the story of Thirteen's escape and his blossomimg romance with Lucian. It also tells his backstory on how he came to be in captivity. I loved the connection Thirtteen has to all the other Omegas and how close they all are. And I loved Lucians connection to his Beta's family
It's a heart warming story of escape and love and Family
Narrated by Nick J Russo. He did a fantastic job of telling Lucian and Thirteen's story
