Summary

Drizzt Do'Urden has settled in the windswept towns of Icewind Dale. There, he encounters a young barbarian named Wulfgar, captured in a raid and made the ward of a grizzled dwarf name Bruenor. With Drizzt's help, Wulfgar will grow from a feral child to a man with the heart of a dwarf, the instincts of a savage, and the soul of a hero. But it will take even more than that to defeat the demonic power of Crenshininbon, the fabled Crystal Shard.

one of the greatest stories ever told

I absolutely adore this book. it started a love for these characters that goes back to the 90s and still going strong today. I can't compliment this book and the following stories enough.

Classic fantasy in an iconic setting.

I picked this up with little knowledge of Drizzt beyond disparate mentions of his companions across D&D source books. I was hoping for just a bit more of a feel for the setting before running an Icewind Dale campaign, but Salvatore writes some good and classic fantasy here.
Inexorably I feel compelled to seek out the rest of the Drizzt novels, although still probably get them in book form.

Performance is good but I can't quite get over "westcotte" (waistcoat) and "short-lie-ved" (short lived)!

It’s goooood

I really enjoyed it great characters, clichéd plot but done really. The fights scenes are really well written probably my favourite bit. The narrator is great although his Kathy brea could be better ha

Victor Bevine is fine but...

Victor Bevine is fine but when he says “short lived” it drives me mad, who pronounces it short lie-ved?! Maddening.

A fun tale from start to finish.

I am completely and utterly hooked on the tales of Drizzt. This chapter was another great ride. My only criticism of this book would be of the "by chance" ways in which our hero escapes certain death.

Other than that, this book is a must listen.

back to basics

An evil lord, dragons, dwarves, halflings, elves, giants, and the human warrior. All the basics of a great story, and then good verses will. Nice!
