Most incredible voice actor
Voice actors make or break an audio book and this woman is incredible. Loved the story, but she really brought it to life.

Engrossing Audible Experience: A Review of 'The Bone Season' Narration
From the moment I started listening to "The Bone Season" by Samantha Shannon on Audible, I was completely engrossed. I even found myself taking longer walks with my dog just so I could keep listening. It's surprising to me that some reviews found the book boring. While it does have slower moments, they are crucial for the protagonist Paige's complex character development as she navigates a daunting new reality.
Paige's emotional journey is raw and realistic, filled with fear, confusion, and determination. This authenticity is what makes the story so compelling. Yes, her decisions can be frustrating at times, but they reflect the wide range of human emotions in life-and-death situations.
The Audible narrator is outstanding, expertly differentiating characters through subtle changes in tone and inflection. Her portrayal adds a rich layer to the storytelling, especially with the slight love interest, making his character particularly captivating.
The dystopian world Shannon creates is intricate and immersive, revealing dark secrets and a gripping plot. The combination of superb narration and detailed world-building makes this audiobook a deeply engaging listen. Despite some slow parts, the emotional depth and realistic character portrayal make it a must-listen for fans of dystopian fantasy.

My Comfort Book
Listening to this audiobook is my comfort show - I have chosen listening to it over podcasts and musics, it's that good. Love the accents and voices.

Exemplary!
I’ve been obsessed with Paige and Warden since first reading THE BONE SEASON in 2013, so listen to the newly revised 10th Anniversary edition on audiobook has been an incredible experience! Samantha Shannon has taken an incredible book and made it exemplary! Honestly, it’s been my favourite series for a decade now and I’m even more obsessed. I cannot wait for the revised versions of the next books!!!

Captivating and disappointing
Samatha Shannon has put together a great story line, with complex and delightful universe building. In many ways she has done the “hard part” of fantasy novels really well - but - the main character is (and remains throughout the book) irritating. The character is maybe written for a young adult audience, but I found the character to be frustrating to follow. The book is well read and put together, but I won’t be continuing the series which is disappointing as I’ve love Shannon’s other work :)

I gave up
Ten hours in and I gave up. I felt no empathy with any of the characters, and although I tried I couldn't enjoy the story.

God it’s dull
Look this book wasn’t for me but I got through to the end. I’ve read various reviews since finishing it which compared it to harry potter when it first came out. It’s nothing like Harry Potter, that’s not a criticism but just an observation. What it is like is “beauty and the beast” with lots of emoting with added clairvoyance and maybe a bit of “fifty shades” but without the sex. If that’s your thing go for it.
I can’t argue it’s not well written but it’s very much a female centric take on SF/fantasy. By this I mean the main character spends ages in emotional turmoil about situations where a male author would have had the character move on. For instance in the book our hero is in a life and death situation and has the means to easily despatch a character who has tortured her and her friends - does she get on with and shoot the enemy, reader she does not. It’s a bit like the long drawn out fight scenes in action movies. Just there to fill time. Much better to use the Indiana Jones method and shoot the swordsman.
