About this listen

ASSISTANT WANTED: Notorious, high-ranking villain seeks loyal, levelheaded assistant for unspecified office duties, supporting staff for random mayhem, terror, and other Dark Things In General. Discretion a must. Excellent benefits.

With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn's most infamous Villain results in a job offer—naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie.

But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat . . . and not just the literal kind. Because something rotten is growing in the kingdom of Rennedawn, and someone wants to take the Villain—and his entire nefarious empire—out.

Now Evie must not only resist drooling over her boss but also figure out exactly who is sabotaging his work . . . and ensure he makes them pay.

After all, a good job is hard to find.

Contains mature themes.

absolutely brilliant!

Listened to it at every free moment, finished in like two days, it's been a while since I've come across something so refreshing - witty and funny, oddly relatable, made me chuckle out loud more than a few times, as well as fluster at times, pause in outrage or overall just left a nice wholesome feeling ... despite the rude cliffhanger... is it too soon to hear it again? how will I survive till books 2 & 3 come out?... those were ~13 brilliant hours of magic, adventure, mystery, office drama and two very oblivious main characters

It’s the best

Best fluffy (no puns intended) romance story and the plot is really interesting. Love the world building here too.

An enjoyable listen

The characters were engaging and the plot left you guessing at times.

Be aware it ends on a cliffhanger.

my first cliff hanger

this listen has been gripping to say the least... the growth of the characters, the relationships and bond between the villain and the assistant had a cute whitey Ness and pull that was enticing, this is the first book I've listened too with a cliff hanger, and OMG I can't belive I've got to wait months to find out what happens next... her own path of villainy to rescue the villain it's going to be beautiful I just know it... only thing I was a little down about was that there wasn't a male narrater to separate and define who's prospective you where listening too.

I liked it

A bit more fantasy and not as fucused on being an assistant as I was expecting, but overall it comes together as a good book.

Loved it

Absolutely loved it! Can’t believe it’s a year’s wait until the next instalment. The narration grated on me quite a lot (I apologise for saying it) and it’s being quite picky but that was the only problem with the audio version the actual storey is gripping from start to finish and I can’t wait for the next book!

The voice was absolutely wrong

I couldn’t tell you if this book was good or bad… I mean it wasn’t very deep and reminded me of a youth book but the readers voice was absolutely horrific for this, and ruined the book.
No disrespect, but a Miley Cyrus meets Paris Hilton in her 2000s era isn’t the kind of voice that suits this when you’re talking about emotional (albeit not deeply) subjects.
