About this listen
Fear. Desire. Redemption.
When I was taken...it changed me.
Once, I was the life of the party. Not anymore.
I told myself that I was okay. I almost believed it, until the day I was forced to face my past and my nightmare came to life.
Now the Four are the only ones I can turn to, and Cassius Drummond has made it his personal mission to help me out.
No matter how much I tell myself that he’s off-limits, the more time we spend together, the more I want him.
Bound by my past, I know I’m no good for him, and I’m nothing more than a convenient distraction while we’re stuck with each other.
It’s going to end in heartbreak.
But every time he smiles at me, I find myself falling a little bit more.
The Bonds We Break is a stand-alone mature new-adult romance but is best enjoyed after the previous four books in the series.

My Thoughts on The Bonds We Break
I love a good Casanova meets his match type of story. But this one was done with such a twist that it took it to a whole new level.
Jessa honestly wasn’t likable in previous books. So it’s a testament to how good Becca Steele is in my opinion that she took this unlikable person from previous books and made her someone you connected with, felt bad for, and ultimately even rooted for. She had such growth across this book. And while it’s a shame that it took a horrific situation to instigate that change, I can still respect it because she could have easily gone another direction. She could have played the woe is me card or blamed the good guys for how she got into that situation. She didn’t do that though, she used it as an opportunity to change and grow.
Cassius on the other hand, who I’d loved from the first book, had moments where I wanted to shake him for not seeing what was right in front of him. Some of the things he said at times were so harsh and as unintentional as it may have been, were cruel even when she didn’t hear it. But of course, he redeemed himself by the end and I was right back to loving him.
I honestly have no complaints, only good things to say about the narration. The same voices have been bringing this series to life from the beginning and I have enjoyed them each and every time. Normally I’m a new voices for new couples person, but this is one of the few times I didn’t mind that the same voices continue throughout.

Cassius & Jessa!
Can I just say that I love the Four? I enjoyed listening to Wynter and Caiden’s story and the little elements that now lead us to Cassius and Jessa! Once Jessa was kidnapped by Little Finger, her life was never the same. Nightmares plague her nights, and she just can’t get back to the mean girl we all loved to hate prior to the tragedy. Cassius sees this and though he is the comedian of the group, he is seriously taking Jessa under his wing. His protectiveness and growing feelings lead to wanting to make her whole again. But the danger isn’t over, and her safety is at risk. Will he and the others be able to keep her safe? I loved Jessa in this book. She is a true heroine as she faces her fears and finds her new normal. Cassius proves to be a man we all want. He is protective and loving. The steamy scenes are passion filled and the suspense scenes thrilling. It’s a great addition to the Kings of Alstone College. Becca Steele has another winner!
Narrated by the talents of Gregory Salinas and Kelli Tager, we are treated to all the voices we know as The Four and the characters we love. I was so happy to see these two continuing the series, keeping the voices consistent and as we know them. Salinas has a fabulous English accent and brings all the alpha qualities to Cassius. Tager too nails the English accent as Jessa and pulls us into all the emotional turmoil she feels. It’s a fantastic team and wonderful listen.

Good Listen
Jessa was the Queen B of her school until she was taken and now everything in her life has changed. Cassius is one of the poplar ones and now he is the only one that sees her for who she is. He brings her among his friends and they must see that she has changed because he is determined to keep her in his life.

So good.
I so loved coming back to the four. I enjoyed following up with characters I didn’t care for, and have them be focused on. The dialogue was performed really well by the narrators, and really made the story stand out. This author really uses her words to make an impact on the reader.

Friend with Benefits to More.....
The Bonds We Break is a sort of friends with benefits to more story involving Cass, one of The Four, and Jessa, who is known for issues she caused with Winter and drama she caused in previous books.
Things are different now as Jessa has been through a traumatic experience. She is different, though people aren't as quick to forget the past and her role in it. Cass is somewhat protective of Jessa though, which only becomes more clear throughout the course of the story. They start a friends with benefits relationship that seems like more even from the start. It is clear that Jessa and Cassius have some serious chemistry and both definitely like being together, but Cass is somewhat in the dark when it comes to his feelings, while Jessa definitely isn't. She knows she likes and wants Cass and that this arrangement will probably just end in heartbreak for her.
I enjoyed having this group of friends back together again, and was glad that over the course of the story relationships were mended. I loved how protective Cass was of Jessa and how much he genuinely seemed to care for her, though it seemed to take him quite awhile to realize his true feelings about her and what he ultimately wanted of their relationship.
The audiobook was really well done. Both Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas did a truly fantastic job with the narration of this story. #PinkFlamingoProductions #TheFlock

The four series is one of my go to rereads and this book just carried on my love for it! Cassius is the playboy of the group that always gives off golden retriever vibes. I love his humour and the way he's always teasing everyone.
If you've read the previous books, then you might not have liked Jessa, however I had always held out hope that she would get a redemption arc and I'm so glad she did! There was a lot more to Jessa that we didn't get to see until this book and I love her just as much as all the others in this series. Understanding Jessa's trauma gave us another side to her as we watched her overcome it and grow!
These two go so well together, with their flirty banter and understanding of each other! Seeing that they can be themselves around each other and show sides they don't show others just made me love them more!
I loved seeing the whole gang again and its got me even more excited for Zayde's book!

Mature New Adult Romance
The Bonds We Break by Becca Steele is a mature new adult romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas.
This is the fifth book in The Four Series and can be read as a standalone. However, I would recommend reading the previous books since the stories are interconnected.
I absolutely love Becca’s books! I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I loved the relationship that bloomed between Cassius and Jessa. Their relationship is a bit messy, but they are perfect for each other. I loved that we got both of their points of view throughout the book. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait for Zayde's book to be announced!
Kelli and Gregory did an amazing job on the narration! I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like new adult romances or romantic suspense.

Mean girl's redemption!
The Bonds We Break is the fifth instalment of The Four and terrific addition to the series. Becca Steele's character and plot development are utterly phenomenal, and with each book, the series becomes better and better. The Bonds We Break is centred on Jessa and Cassius. The journey is a perfect balance of drama, steam, suspense, danger, and growth; it kept me totally tuned in. Jessa, the mean girl we love to hate, was abducted, and the tragic event forever altered her and her life. Nothing for Jessa will ever be the same. Cassius's easy-going and protective nature become Jessa's pillar. He becomes the glue that puts the broken pieces back together. Their story is wonderfully written, heartfelt, sweet, scorching, with a gratifying ending. I never imagined Jessa redeeming herself and me feeling empathic towards her, but Steel's made it happen. From tragedy and nightmares, redemption and love arose.
Stellar narration by Kelli Tager and Gregory Salinas. Their depiction of Jessa and Cassius personalities, emotions, and connection was spot-on. I really enjoyed their performance and Steel's writing. The Bonds We Break is a must listen, one I'll highly recommend.
