About this listen
A Chronicles of St Mary's short story that is sure to entertain. If you love Jasper Fforde or Ben Aaronovitch, you won't be able to resist Jodi Taylor.
It's not easy being a rebel.
So many new skills to assimilate.
Never mind strategic planning, weapons expertise and the like - there's bicycle-stealing, oil-stain removal and boat steering to be mastered first.
And quickly.
It's the time of the Civil Uprisings and two young women set out to make a difference.
Their only problem?
They don't know where they are.
Or where they're going.
Or what to do when they get there.
Other than that ...
Fans of St Mary's will enjoy this glimpse into the past of some of their favourite characters.

Very moving
Jodi's descriptions are always great but this time I felt like I was really there.
It's not your usually time travelling romp but that's ok because it tells us more about some of our favourite characters.
Also I wasn't crying at the end I had something in my eye.
So make a pot of tea get the chocolate digestives open and enjoy.

Hurrah for St Mary’s
I’ve just read all the short stories and while they are all wonderful - I love Jodie’s writing and Zara’s reading - this one is just something else. I won’t bother saying why, I just recommend that everyone read it and hope you all get the same from it as I did. Thank you Mss Taylor and Ramm🙏🏼👏🏻

Another epic short story
If you are a fan of the saint Mary’s chronicles, you’ll love this background tale as much as any of the others. It’s another excellent tale from Jodi Taylor, with the fantastic Zara narrating.
I really enjoyed hearing about those unsung heroes and what really happened during the recent history of their England.
The only problem is waiting for the next one!

I laughed and cried at this one
I wasn't expecting this one to be quite as much of an emotional ride as it was. I found myself balling my eyes out and then laughing out loud while the tears were still on my cheeks. I think this is my favourite of of shorter stories.

Good
Story was very interesting, and a little bit worrying Don't believe it couldn't happen. History shows all sorts of unbelievable things. Good narration.

Emotional and compelling
This was heartfelt and plucked at all the right chords of what it is to be British. Compassion, stiff upper lip, the importance of tea, the Blitz spirit, a dislike for authoritarianism, just getting on with, keeping calm and carrying on.
I got quite choked up. It felt like a real description of the Home Guard defending against the Nazis. It was an utterly absorbing story, which fans of St Mary's have long wanted to hear.
As always the author makes you feel like you were living the history the characters describe or witness. But this honestly could have been lifted from a WW2 action and couldn't have been more compelling.
