About this listen
From the globally bestselling author of the Chronicles of St Mary's series, a not-so-ladylike aristocrat meets the world's most unlikely butler, and together they bring a whole new meaning to partners-in-crime...
'Clever, funny and made my heart hurt in the best way' Stephanie Butland, bestselling author of Found in a Bookshop
Meet Lady Amelia Smallhope, for whom there is no problem that can't be solved by a drink and a think.
And Pennyroyal, for whom there is no problem. Ever.
Everyone's favourite time-travelling bounty hunters. Sorry - 'recovery agents'. No bad guy they can't handle. No expense account too flexible. No rule they cannot break.
As long as they're together, the world is their oyster. And they'll always have each other, right?
Fasten your seatbelts. The timeline doesn't know what's about to hit it.

Absolutely Brilliant
We could all do with a Stanhope and Pennyroyal watching our backs.
What a fabulous Author you are Jodi Taylor with a wonderful narrator in Zara Ram. Thank you both for this hilarious, witty romp along the timeline again.

Absolutely brilliant all the previous appearances in the st. Mary’s are mentioned - it’s just so joined up
I loved this book having read all the st. Mary’s and time police books all the mentions etc. made sense and it was lovely how it all joined up - I was very hesitant about this book as I couldn’t for the life of me see how it could relate to St Mary’s but I had forgotten the authors skill at bringing everything together and, spoiler alert, I am glad finally the pair of them, well you know 😁

Such a great book!!
As a massive fan of the Chronicles of st Mary's and of the characters Smallhope and Pennyroyal, this book was such an amazing treat. The
audio version was narrated by the ever excellent Zara Ramm. She did not disappoint here either. The voices are all spot on in my opinion.
In order to appreciate this book fully, I recommend people who are new to the author's work, to read the st Mary's books first. There are events mentioned in this book that you can read about in several of the st Mary's books. You'll want to start with the first one though. The title is: "Just one damned thing after another."
This book was everything I hoped for and then some. There's lots of action, humour, some tense moments, some sad. Getting to know the duo better was great and I love them even more now.

The Best Yet!
I did wonder whether I would enjoy this as I have listened to all the St Mary's, and they are fabulous. I was worried this would be too much of a 'prequel' and just go over old ground in a different way. It didn't. It's an absolute stonker. In fact, maybe her best yet. I want the next ballad of Smallhope and Pennyroyal as soon as possible please. Write faster Jodie Taylor.

Spellbinding. A triumph.
I was hooked right from the start and remained hooked right through to the end. OK, I didn’t get how they could jump to create an alibi early on in the book (twice in the same time), but I can live with it. A wonderful book given a fabulous performance by Zara Ramm.
