About this listen

"Welcome to the Pelaran Alliance...."

With those simple words, the Guardian spacecraft openly revealed itself to humanity, heralding a new chapter in its 500-year-long mission to cultivate our world. Earth's population must now make its first planet-wide decision - join the most powerful alliance in our galaxy or chart our own course, deciding for ourselves which civilizations are worthy of our trust. Will we be the first world to decline the Pelarans' invitation, or does their offer come with an implied threat?

Aboard Terran Fleet Command's flagship, TFS Navajo, Admiral Kevin Patterson assembles his formidable but untested forces in hopes of defending the Earth. Knowing that an attack is imminent, he must risk everything in hopes of finding his enemy and taking the initiative.

Returning from TFC's first battle, Captain Tom Prescott learns that his frigate, TFS Ingenuity, is more heavily damaged than expected. Now he must race against time to prepare a new ship, then execute a daring mission to save Earth's last and best hope of avoiding full-scale interstellar war.

it's getting better

the first book was a slow start and the second book progress the story but each cuts off far to soon. I feel like the books are written with a commercial slant of making money over giving a story with a defined end. they are a good listen but they should be longer with more content given... however the first to being free is a boon...I would buy the next instalments if they where around 18-22 hours.

TFS THESEUS

Once you get into it and all the tech jargon it gets to be a really very good listen, book one is just as enjoyable.

Excellent Space Opera but .....

Enjoyed and cannot wait to start book 3 but the ring lies the only issue. This book appears to be half a book and should by rights no doubt included book 3.

It does not fall into my definition of a self contained novel with start and finish, instead it is an episode in a series with cliff hanger ending(s).

All that said it is still darn good.

its good and I want to know more.

I like the characters and the storyline, its light listening. the books are a bit short and all end abruptly as if it is a long book cut up. but I'll continue to the third book and see what happens next....

Spins a good yarn, good performance

A more technically minded sci fi approach.

Sets the situation up well, let’s mutually capable people do their thing and allows for the use of supportive AI systems without replacing the initiative of the crews.

This setting is a popular one (the rise of and first contact by humanity) but this is IMO one of the better approaches to account for humanities survival to start exploring beyond the solar system past the usual “we ignore non FTL cultures” hand waving (plus a good driver of the inevitable conflicts of interest that follow).

a good story for a first contact series

firslty I'm glad this is included in my audible membership.
secondly, I really like this short story of how humans were " cultivated" in to being a space faring species by other more superior aliens.

in book 2, which was also included in my membership for free, this story arc is elaborated.

I did not purchase book 3, although sci fi and first contact are my favourite topics in listening books, I could not wrap my head around why book one and two were not one book ( single book) . the author spends too much time explaining to the listener how the ship works etc. there wasn't enough story in it for me to be engaged.

easy listening sci-fi

it's a little corny, but it's good fun. The story is a little padded out with long-winded explanations and exposition though, otherwise an interesting story. Worth a listen
