About this listen
Only a few short months after humanity's first interstellar flights, the first shots have been fired in what will eventually become known as the Alliance Wars.
Terran Fleet Command teeters on the edge of chaos in the aftermath of Chairwoman Crull's removal from power, while in space, Earth's defense falls squarely on the shoulders of Admiral Kevin Patterson. With only a small number of ships capable of bringing the fight to the enemy, he makes the bold decision to divide his forces, meeting the Resistance task force head-on at two separate locations.
Captain Tom Prescott and crew aboard the destroyer Theseus meet with initial success on the battlefield, only to be faced with the arrival of a warship completely out of her class - armed with weapons for which she is not prepared.
As the Resistance task force makes its final approach to Earth, a new ally warns of the horrors that will be visited on our homeworld if the coming attack succeeds. In the meantime, the enigmatic Guardian watches and waits, noncommittal as to its role as a protector or a mere observer.
Yet hope remains - as a friend of humanity finally comes to grips with his destiny.

Fun if somewhat flawed doe to a few telegraphed poor decisions.
A great performance of you like this sort of matter of fact narration.
Overall story and degrees of pacing/intrigue weee great.
Main issue is that trained, tested and generally smart people and ships backed up by Ai counterparts and systems made a few too many silly moves that resulted in excessive/forced changes in relative encounter balance (as vague as I can make it while still describing an issue)
Potential spoilers.
Mostly this sprang from obvious issues caused by failing to take even the most basic countermeasures into account and having skirmish forces fly in close up or wall-line formations rather than properly scouting the enemy forces via probing attacks.
semi extended fights flipped on excessive changes in short periods that should have been if not totally avoided then nowhere near as devastating as happened.
Something more forgivable were those points not used to swing the narrative quite so wildly between sections, as they were mostly an interesting additional feature that hinted at wider plans rather than flinging otherwise capable people into identical repetition of pervious behaviours.

Captivating
Kept me on the edge of my seat. found myself impatient to get back to the story. Books 1 to 3 have been good experiences. Now on to Book 4.

Good space yarn
This was a good space yarn, my only thoughts are that the first one was too short . The second seemed a more complete story line but as with many stories these days left the reader hanging at the end. This one, the third had better pacing, a good story line but still tends to be a little wordy. Sometimes less is more and this would have sharped the story in my humble opinion.
That said I have purchased book four. I look forward to hearing it in the near future. Too many books too little time, even with Audible.

Gave up on TFS series by book 3
I tried to listen to the entire series but by book 3 it just felt so flat and lifeless that I gave up. Several characters had the same kind of dialogue and used the same phrases. The impressive detail for military terms is not enough to hold up other elements of the story that needed more body and thought from the author. Based in the time and cost, I do not recommend this series.

Future Terrans love the sound of their own voice
Why say something in 5 words when you can say it with a further 25 words of useless embellishment?
Makes for extremely tedious listening… just get on with it!
