About this listen
Ghost of a chance?
Fortune is thrilled when Ben Harrison, her former CIA partner, and his fiancée, Cassidy, decide to leave DC and move to the Louisiana bayous. They’ve already secured jobs and are only lacking a place to live, so everyone is excited when they quickly find a home. There’s only one problem—the house has a reputation. It’s haunted.
Fortune doesn’t believe in ghosts, but when Cassidy starts seeing a woman in white inside her house and can’t determine how she’s entering or exiting, Fortune knows she’s got to figure out what’s going on before things get worse. As Swamp Team 3 takes on the “spirited” case, they dive into a decades-old mystery of love, money, voodoo curses, and a missing woman. But can they get answers before Ben and Cassidy give up the ghost and go back to DC?

Still fantastic after 23 books!
I love this series and I will be listening until book 250 or more if it gets that far. These are the kind of characters and Sinful is the kind of place I was to keep revisiting, being a fly on the wall. Gertie alone is my entertainment quite filled. Now with Harrison there to play off of Fortune, it's just getting better and better! Keep writing Ms deLeon. I will absolutely keep reading!

No Celia! Hurrah!
Everything is Relative…
This is a ‘straightforward’ mystery centering around Fortune’s former CIA partner, Harrison, his fiancée and their haunted house! That’s as straightforward as it is ever going to get because, of course, there’s Gertie’s handbag!
A good segue into introducing Harrison into how boring and dull life can be in Sinful. The worst thing is yet to come, because he hasn’t yet met Celia!

Swamp Spirits
This is another funny, entertaining, laugh out loud story with Fortune proving she has still got it and enjoying having her 'family' Harrison move closer. His move is not as painless as it should be, so the trip find out what is going on! Read brilliantly as always by Cassandra Campbell.

Recommend : excellent in every way.
I think I need to first of all confess that I adore this series. Well, full disclosure, I love everything Jana DeLeon writes, but I am especially fond of the Miss Fortune series, and this particular book has become one of my favourites.
If you’re new to the series, you really do need to read ‘Louisiana Longshot’ first. If you’re not bothered about being a completist, Fortune’s CIA related troubles are resolved in ’Change of Fortune’ (book 11) The novel following that one ‘Reel of Fortune’ is another favourite of mine, so I recommend that one too.
Cassandra Campbell adds another layer of enjoyment to the series with her excellent performances. I know some sticklers are irritated by her mispronunciation of a few of the Southern surnames etc, but it doesn’t impede my enjoyment of her work. I’m able to fully engage in the story and am rarely confused about which character is speaking as her vocal range is great. I’ve even searched for other titles that she’s performed, so taken am I by her skill.
I find Sinful a comforting place to escape to. Fiction wise I rarely reread anything other than LOTR but I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to these books. If I’m stressed out and anxious these never fail to provide me with a way to disengage my lizard brain and give me some time out from reality.
SLIGHT SPOILER ALERT
I’m enjoying the directions that this book is taking the characters in. Her former CIA partner’s introduction into the world makes sense, and the mystery surrounding the haunted house that he and his fiancée have bought is detailed and engaging. It’s moving things along just enough to keep things fresh imho and I’m looking forward to starting the next in the series. I generally read the Kindle version first, and I tend to save them up to savour at a time when I can fully immerse myself in the story. The audio versions are generally a wee while after a novel’s release, but if I can I like to listen to the previous book before I start to read the next.
I recommended the series to friend who doesn’t generally like this genre, and he’s thoroughly enjoying them. He was sold on trying them when he realised who was reading them. That rather says it all.

Mystery
I love the Miss Fortune books as they can make me laugh out loud and cry as well. I loved the mystery in this one and the fact that it started off as ghost hauntings and turned out it was all done by humans an ms there were so many it was almost impossible to work out who did what but it had the best ending. Cassandra Campbell is a great narrator and her voice changes so easily for the different characters. Jana's books are definitely on my must buy list.
