About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Cal Kestis leads the Mantis crew on an adventure set between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and the highly anticipated Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Cal Kestis has built a new life for himself with the crew of the Stinger Mantis. Together, Cal's crew has brought down bounty hunters, defeated Inquisitors, and even evaded Darth Vader himself. More important, Merrin, Cere, Greez, and faithful droid BD-1 are the closest thing Cal has had to a family since the fall of the Jedi Order. Even as the galaxy's future grows more uncertain by the day, with each blow struck against the Empire the Mantis crew grows more daring.
On what should be a routine mission, they meet a stormtrooper determined to chart her own course with the help of Cal and the crew. In exchange for help starting a new life, the Imperial deserter brings word of a powerful, potentially invaluable tool for their fight against the Empire. And even better, she can help them get to it. The only catch-pursuing it will bring them into the path of one of the Empire's most dangerous servants, the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.
Can the Imperial deserter truly be trusted? And while Cal and his friends have survived run-ins with the Inquisitors before, how many times can they evade the Empire before their luck runs out?

I liked the exploration of the character Merrin
I did not like the constant background noise of ships engines when wearing headphones it made it really distracting having this constant took me a lot longer too long to listen to this as having to stop over and over due to distractions of the noise

Not as good as I hoped it would be
There was not enough action . It also seemed to disregard Cals and Merrins romantic connection altogether which is evident in both games? Could have been really good but was just not on par with the games story. Hope future books up the game. Pun intended. It was well read though.

Hard work
I really enjoyed the Cal Kestis games and their stories are brilliant. The character and overall story of Cal deserved better than this book.
The performances are good and the production values like all Star Wars audio books is top notch.
But it’s such hard work to try and get through. I’ve been in and out for months and still have 2 hours left, I can’t find the motivation to finish it.
In hindsight I’d probably avoid. It doesn’t really add anything of merit to Cals overall story and as others have mentioned, it just seems more sexualised than any other Star Wars book or show I’ve read or seen before, and not in my opinion to the benefit of the story.

Softcore fan-fiction
Some good back story and characterisation of Merrin, otherwise I can’t honestly say what it adds to the franchise. Hardly required recommended reading for Jedi: survivor. Also, a note for the audio publisher - just because you can fill an entire chapter with a high-pitched whine due to ‘engine noise’ doesn’t mean you should.

Thirsty nightsister, not much cal
The narration is good, not Marc Thompson level good but more than adequate.
Nearly 11 hours long and felt like atleast 8 of them were merrin thirsting over some new character with strong hands, who is basically there to be a object of desire with no personality. The remaining time was split between team savagely killing hundreds of people without a care or arguing with each other.
If you have nothing better to do then give it listen

A little thin
There are some serious things that happen to characters in the novel. But for the most part not much actually takes place. The narrative is pretty thin and the ending is extremely predictable.
There is some interesting internal conflict happening with Merrin. But, I don't think it's handled well enough by the writer for that to be the main narrative driver of the entire novel.
In the end, it's a bit of filler whilst you wait for a sale on the Jedi Survivor game

disappointed
The story was ok, not great, performance was very lacklustre, and some of the dialogue was straight up awful. the only voice I enjoyed was Greez's. The rest were pretty dreadful. Making Kal sound like a hyperactive five year old was insult Cameron Monohans performance

Not the book you're looking for
This is not the book about the adventures of the Mantis crew I was expecting. The story is a bit bland and has not hooked me in, and half the time it's borderline explicit erotica! Which I find extremely uncomfortable.
There was also an awful sound effect consisting of a very high pitched drone that continued for what felt like half an entire chapter uninterrupted which gave me a headache.
