About this listen
Magick is real. It's also highly illegal - not that I'm worried about that.
Sure, I heal faster than most, and I've got a sixth sense for brewing tea that can fix just about any problem, but my cafe isn't exactly a hotbed of paranormal activity. At least it wasn't...until some psycho attacked me and woke up the freaky, forbidden magick inside, earning me a one-way ticket to jail. Now, a covert magickal university is offering me a deal: my freedom in exchange for help with the Tarot prophecies - cryptic predictions they believe hold the key to stopping a deadly apocalyptic plot.
Predictions only I can decipher. Because the witch who divined them? She died years ago. I should know. She was my mother.
Grab your grimoires, girls. Magick school's officially in session.
All I have to do now is master my crazy powers, decode the doomsday prophecies, outwit a mean-girl coven that puts the psycho in psychic, and survive the temptations of one very naughty professor and three scorching-hot, overprotective mages shadowing my every move.
There's only one problem. If I'm right about the prophecies? Survival isn't in the cards for any of us.
Contains mature themes.

best played at .85
I loved the storyline and the development of the characters. I am definitely going straight onto the second book in the series. The female narrator however reads as if she is a hurry to get through it. I found that slowing the audio down to .85 of the speed really helped.

Great Character
Stevie is in her 20s, a witch without knowledge of her powers or if she had much of it. I love Stevie, her inner monologue is smart, fierce, funny and confident.
The boys, Doc, Kiran, Baz and Arnie. We also get their POV and it helps a little. Although it doesn't spoil the mystery of what is going on, what Stevie is to them. They are...well not likable thats not the right word...they well built, have enough depth you want to know more, and you remember who is who...but not so much you instantly love and trust them, which is something some RH fail to do.
The story, it's interesting concept. The discovery of power, legacy, prophecy and danger.
The romantic interests is slow burn, but fast burn smut in some cases. I was a little disappointed with the smut, considering some of the lead up and play we get, when it does happen it just felt rushed and didn't make a impact I think it should have made. But that's just my smutty craving needs...
I do want to read the rest of the series, but I am scared it's going to be a big disappointment. There were just so many marks missed, but not missed enough to ruin the book that I am just waiting for it. The characters are what make the book and is why I will pick up book 2 when it rolls out in the book app I use. But I'm not desperately needing to jump back in.
A fun, interesting, spicy read. overall enjoyable

Childish whychoose
Reasons to listen:
*R.H./Whychoose
*Academy
*Funny at times
*Decent world-building
*Professor/student
*An actual plot besides their relationships (save the magical world and its peoples!)
*Bully Romance
Reasons to avoid:
*Slightly cringeworthy narrators and like REALLY bad when Stephen Dexter does female voices
*Everyone acts like they are in high school, while pretending that they are not acting like they are in middle school. I mean, seriously. WAY too much bullying at child level, when these are supposed to be university age students
*No real backstory on any of the characters besides our FMC. Who are these people?!? Anyone know? Nope. Ok!
*Pretty much no character development
*All relationship problems are based on 'we keep secrets and refuse to talk to each other' -> repeatedly.
Conclusion: If you want an easy listen, if slightly childish listen. Go for it! Otherwise, eh, there are so many much better paranormal whychoose academy romances out there.

Difficult to get into this book
This had a fairly simple plot with lots of fluff padding it out. I struggled to get through it. Narrators were fabulous though, but I won’t be bothering with the rest in this series.

Fantastic!
I loved this book, I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down, I loved Stevie's character she's delicously snarky and she's a fighter, I'll definately be listening to the whole series.

A great book by a great author with only one annoyance!
Sarah Piper is a great author and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed many of her books. Nicole Poole is one of my favourite Audible narrators but in this series of books I have one complaint about her and Stephen Dexter’s narrative. Call me petty but it’s incredibly frustrating when book character’s names are pronounced incorrectly, especially for main or significant characters! Both Nicole and Stephen have obviously never come across the name “Isla” before as they pronounce it as it’s spelt (The correct pronunciation being eye-la). Despite “Ani” being written in the books description, both narrators call him Arnie. No, these mistakes aren’t huge and don’t detract from the storyline but I personally cringe every time I hear them! (Just saying!).

A very original story
A fairly traditional good versus evil plot, but the introduction of the tarot cards and the riddles made it a completely enjoyable read.
Fascinating and good characters.
Can’t wait for the next one

Simply amazing
The story is amazing but the reader sounds like a robot with barely any emotion.
