About this listen
We've created this audiobook to help children with spelling, grammar, and spelling bee preparedness. This book provides 11 weeks of 4 days of practice, with a 5th day to see what they have learned. While this audiobook was created for independent study, I encourage you to look over the test. It is important to acknowledge any improvement they have made, no matter how big their win.
Use these audiobooks for independent study in homeschool, freeing you up to work with another child, do the dishes, work, or have a quiet moment to yourself. We first start with the lists so they can write the spelling words the first day of each week. Then the following three days we spell the word (audio learning), then the word is used in a sentence (repetition), then there will be approximately 11 seconds for the child to write the spelling word before the word is repeated then spelled out and repeated again for proper spelling bee practice.
I have been intentional in the speed used for this book, but please speed the recording up or down to better match your child's ability. We will work in weeks of mostly 15 words. Each list can take between 10-30 minutes to complete, depending on the child and speed. You, of course, can break up this audiobook to fit your child’s needs in building spelling and grammar confidence.
For children who struggle with sensory issues, I suggest letting them use a whiteboard and dry erase markers. We’ve found, with our children, that there was far less resistance than with typical pen and paper. According to edutopia.org, solid research has shown that spelling instruction has improved performance in reading fluency and comprehension. It even showed that the practice of spelling helps the child's ability to read more than reading helps their spelling.
