Every August thousands of tourists and performers flood into Edinburgh for its famous festival. But this year, on the very first day, an explosion rocks Princes Street, and a man is killed. A few hours later, a threatening letter is delivered to the Secretary of State – apparently from a freedom group – demanding political separation from England. Assistant Chief Constable Bob Skinner, head of CID, quickly assembles his team, with SAS backup.
Yet, despite a huge security check, the escalating situation claims its second victim. Well read gripping story.
Although I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and found it gripping I don't much like Bob Skinner, for some unknown reason. This doesn't make me want to read more in the series.

Skinner's Festival
I am a Skinner addict. This was one of his early books. So much more enjoyable to listen to it. James Bryce is the perfect narrator for Quintin Jardine's novels.

Top Notch Crime
This is the second Bob Skinner book I have had the great pleasure of reading. Only one criticism a police officer advising the SAS on building entry tactics? Never in a million years!

Skinner absolutely loves himself.
Would you try another book written by Quintin Jardine or narrated by James Bryce?
No! Never again. Anyone who loves himself as much as the smug self-satisfied Skinner has absolutely turned me off the character, the flaws of the plot and his amazing powers."Skinner looked back and thought he'd done very well" Smirk smirk! Ugh!
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
He'd have flaws, make mistakes then recover.

Jardine can write, maybe he just loves his character, but boy Skinner is as shallow as it comes.

Skinner's Folly
Would you try another book written by Quintin Jardine or narrated by James Bryce?
I was not sure about the first book in series Skinners Rules (see addition comments), but I thought I would give the second book a go, but it made me realise I would not read another one.
Has Skinner's Festival put you off other books in this genre?

Some of the book is OK, there are some elements that I found too annoying to continue with it

Without trying to spoil the plot, there is probably the biggest ongoing terrorist attack Scotland has ever seen, but Skinner manages to have sex on a beach, sex at home twice, still have evenings off. I was a bit concerned in the first book when I was told the size of his male member (WHY DO I NEED TO KNOW THIS!!) Skinner is just too perfect, or maybe I am just jealous, it just all stretched reality a little too far.
