Summary

On a cold January morning, a nightmare awaits in a small Sussex village. A deranged young man goes on the rampage, shooting everyone in his path before taking his own life. It is a senseless, tragic event, but sadly not an unfamiliar one. At least, that's what everyone thinks.

Only Julia Trent - believed to be the sole survivor - knows there was a second man involved. But after being shot and badly injured, her account of the massacre is ignored. But she cannot let it rest there.

Together with Craig Walker, the journalist son of one of the victims, Julia sets out to find the truth. As they peel back the layers of a dark and dangerous conspiracy, they discover the slaughter didn't begin on that bitter day in January. And worst of all, it won't end there...

I am glad this wasn’t the first Tom Bale book I came across

As the heading says, I really am glad this wasn’t my first Tom Bale book. If it had of been, I can honestly say, I would have missed out on his other great books like Terrors Reach and Blood Falls. Those books were outstanding.

This story is not great. It does get better towards the end but the narration left me cold. I kept drifting off and losing the plot line. Having said this, it is only my personal preference. I like narrators like Paul Thornley and Armand Schultz.

If this is your first Tom Bale experience, give the other titles a listen. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Tom Bale - Skin & Bones

Found that I could not switch off. Very gripping story.

As I live in Sussex, was nice to hear that he did not make up names of places.

Can't wait to listen to his next book.

HARD TO GET INTO PLOT

After a good start to the plot, storyline slowed down, but couldn't turn off. Once into the plot had to know the outcome. Not listened to any other books narrated by Gordon Griffin, so beside a new writer , a new narrated to adjust too. Not a book I would recommend to most of my acquaintances as some bits a bit gory at times.

Dreadful narrator!

I have only managed to listen to the first few minutes of this book but already am so irritated by the reader that I can't listen any longer ! I have no idea about the story, it might have been a cracker !

Fits & starts

The tempo kept getting stuck. Begins with a bang but ..... It dragged me to the end which I should say does have a final final endearing twist but much of the action seemed laboured in getting there.
