About this listen
From the first content creator to interview President Biden, leading progressive voice Brian Tyler Cohen takes a step back from the day-to-day news cycle to explain how American politics has turned into such a dumpster fire—and what Democrats need to do to get us out of it.
In Shameless, Brian Tyler Cohen lays bare the long con of the modern Republican Party. While the radical right continues hiding behind gaslighting maneuvers, artificial slogans, and hollow catchphrases, Cohen’s unflinching narrative illuminates the realities and dangers of the ever-widening gulf between the vaunted Republican brand and their actual behavior.
With a foreword by Congressman Jamie Raskin, drawing on interviews and insights from Pete Buttigieg, Mehdi Hasan, Jen Psaki, and other luminaries of the Left, Cohen reveals:
- How Republicans have leaned on their historical branding to give themselves a permission structure to behave antithetically to everything they say;
- Why the mainstream media has proved itself a willing participant in this ongoing farce—particularly since the rise of toxic, sensationalist MAGA mania; and
- What lessons Democrats can glean from a clear-eyed view of the landscape we’re operating in—and the steps we must take to rebalance our political landscape.
During this all-hands-on-deck moment in our history, Shameless is essential listening for those seeking to understand our dire situation, and a rallying cry for those fighting to preserve democracy.

Excellent, on point and no fluff
Great narration by Brian, clear and concise analysis of how we got to this point in us politics. With the election just 84 days away and democracy on the line, it is inconceivable why anyone would not want to invest just 4 hours of their time to listen to this excellent book and understand how democracy has been undermined by the Republican Party.

Great summary of the failure of the Republican Party
Contrary to what you might have been told BTC hasn’t written a book that is pro-Democrat, but one that is pro-democracy. He is on the side of normalcy and democracy and this book is a good starting place to understand quite how effectively Trump and the modern Republican Party have destroyed the GOP.
It also goes into explaining why the MSM cannot be relied on with its obsession with both-sidesism whilst RWM is just a Republican mouth piece.

The road to shame
Fantastisch book by BTC. How the right grew to shameless politics. Good view of the weakness of the left and way to do about it.

Crystal Clear
B T C is crystal clear about the real and present danger that the Republican Party are to the democratic future of the USA. A timely reminder that beyond the fog of petty culture wars the risk to the Worlds largest democracy is teetering on the brink.

A book of great importance
A clear and succinct account of how the Democratic process is under attack and the origins of its calculated undermining. Even for someone who is familiar with Brian’s channel and his insights, I still learned a great deal. Highly recommended. Make sure to vote.

I Loved It..
I absolutely appreciated & adored this book.
It was great to hear Brian’s (BTC) thoughts & his hard work delivered by him.
I am a Brit & US politics have always stomped me. I am a big fan of BTC for approx. 3/4yrs as his narrative & delivery (along with Glen K) has always been, humorous & honest, which is why I decided I am absolutely going to support him by buying his book. This book provided a much deeper dive & a greater understanding of (what is deemed by me) the acceptable & despicable behaviour of some politicians & why such fabricated, exaggerated & vulgar narratives are acceptable, not just on podcast but on the TV.
This book provided such a great in depth explanation & understanding to the history of that behaviour & this was a thorough & critical evaluation of political behaviour & actions and the impact on the American democracy.
The book was sufficient & needed in a genre that wasn't too padded out with unnecessary chit/chat & also offered a strong perspective and allowed the listener (or reader) a more detailed exploration of topics.
I liked that Brian ends on a hopeful note, that was admirable & it made me feel more encouraged. Hopefully, one day he will visit the UK, either on a tour - it would be great to hear him speak live & do a Q&A..
Thank you BTC, your team, your collaborators, & everyone who inspired you (mum) enough to be included in this book. I know it took a lot of your time –
It was worth it.

A well researched and breezy guide to modern politics
Cohen brilliantly disseminates the rot at the heart of modern politics and where it originated. For many in the west (UK included) this books showcases the slippery neoliberal slide toward fascism and autocracy. Change the names and you could shift Republican to UK Tory or Trump to Boris. I look forward to more literary works from Cohen.

Short, punchy
I love audio books which are read aloud by the author and of course Brian is excellent at this.

Exceptional grounded POV
I've been following Brian since he had a few hundred followers. His insight and daily posts give you a true picture of the U.S's political situation, as a guy from the UK, I've found his content honest and well researched. The book is a great extension of this content. Brian delves into the alarming state of American politics that has devolved into the hopeful Vs hatred with some valuable reflections on history. Refreshingly lacking the sensationalism that U.S media often has, which effectively normalises shocking events, Brian's book is a warning to his affiliated party, the opposition and indeed the world, that progressives need to learn new lessons or democracy will slip away. Highly recommended.
