Great Performance and Story
What made the experience of listening to Praetorian the most enjoyable?
I am a big fan of Simon Scarrow's Macro & Cato series of books, I have read all of his books and listening to the books again as a way of refreshing my memory. I found the audio version of the book to be very good.

Great story, but...
like all the other Cato and Macro adventures, this is a good listen.
Unfortunately Garath Armstrong ruins the story with his terrible narration.

Hooked!
I love the stories of these two clever gets who's personalities bounce off each other. This book is no exception. You are able to pick up & get into the minds &characters of the persons in the story. I enjoyed this book very much.

The narrator's not in keeping with the books
The narrator makes the characters sound pretty wimpy, especially when Cato and Macro are shouting commands or showing frustration. Jonathan Keeble was much better

Good but not his best...
So many people slated the narrator, so much do I nearly never read the book but glad I did. He does sound a bit Monty Python but he's not that bad, worthwhile read...

Saliva
Absolutely love Simon Scarrow and his books and this was one of my favourite ones. Just a shame that all I could hear from the narrator was the saliva in his mouth while he was speaking

Praetorian
I am more disappointed with some of the previous reviews than I am the book. Yes, it’s different in that there is no mass army to beat and there’s a “who done it” element
, but I enjoyed the story and the banter between Cato and Macro. The new narrator, I thought he was fine, slightly different voices obviously but not to the point where it became distracting as it did in other books. This book has left me wanting to strangle Narcissus even more, but move on to the next book to see if Macro gets there first!

Disappointed by reader.
These are great stories but I'm fed up with the constantly changing readers. This one has two characters: a posh school master and a posh school pupil, neither are appropriate for these characters. Sorry, but it's a distraction.
