About this listen
'An utterly charming 1940’s mystery. Definitely a new series addiction!' Debbie Young
Westleham Village 1947.
It’s the Westleham village show and with the war finally over, everyone is looking forward to a pleasant day.
But newcomer, Martha Miller doesn’t share the excitement. Because since her husband Stan left for work one day and never returned, Martha has been treated as somewhat of an outsider in Westleham. The village gossip is that Martha must be to blame….
Martha hopes she can win her fellow villagers over with her delicious homemade plum gin. But as glasses of the tangy tipple are quaffed, disaster strikes! Chairwoman of the village show, Alice Warren, slumps to the ground - poisoned!
As fingers of suspicion again point Martha’s way, she’s determined to prove her innocence and find the real culprit. And she’s ably helped by the new vicar, Luke Walker.
But who would kill Alice and why? And will Luke and Martha discover who is behind the poisoning before it's too late?
Find out in a brand new Martha Miller mystery from bestselling author Catherine Coles, perfect for fans of Lee Strauss and Beth Byers!

Really enjoyed this
A lovely murder mystery set just after the war, giving a sense of village life. The storyline, characters and plot, is well written capturing those times. I loved the way the characters where introduced into the storyline and how the Mysteries and murder were solved. The story was very well told by the narrator who kept me interested.

Fun and very silly ‘sleuth’ story
I liked the slow paced cut glass narration which seemed to suit the exploits of villager Martha Millet and her sister Ruby. I liked the characterisation, and the introduction/involvement of the vicar. Decided to buy the next one in the Martha Miller series to keep me company whilst doing my housework!

Murder in a post-war country village
The books paints a detailed picture of life in a small post-war English village and some of the difficulties the lead character faces in getting back to some sort of normality. I really enjoyed it and the narration brought the characters to life very well!

Poor narration, poor quality audio.
Struggling with this due to narrators voice! Hard to decipher what she is reading at times. If only these readers would use a normal voice and tone, NOT try to imitate dialects of regional accents. It spoils the story for me as I can't understand what she's saying at times! No need to sound "posh", most of us are not!!😠 Audio tone was so bad at times it was difficult to hear it or understand what was being said! Try re recording this audio book please.

No thank you
Am sorry to say the voice was as drab as the early chapters of the story.
